I always use a surge protector for all electronic equipment.

Power surges off an inverter are probably not going to happen. It's the voltage drops when you crank the engine and when the batteries get run down overnight and can't supply decent voltage to the inverter that's going to cause havoc on the motherboard and hd's. The output ac voltage is directly proportional to the input dc voltage.

At least with a dc to dc adapter, the problems aren't amplified as much.

I've had no issues running $20 140 watt invertors from Wal-Mart. Or $40 400 watts with tv.

As for toothbrush chargers. I buy the $5 battery operated toothbrushes. They last for the 6 week duration before throwing away for new brush. $5 EVERY 6 weeks seems worth it.

That's not too bad, it'd average out to 11 cents per tooth per week for using a battery powered toothbrush

What I want to know Dave? Is why the heck your doing it the hard way?
Get yourelf the 12 volt adapter and dont use the inverter! There is no need for the inverter for laptops. Amazon will sell you a power brick that you plug one end into the cigarrette lighter outlet and the other end goes into the laptop directly. It really is that simple. And it wont set you back more than $15 (shipping not included) or go to a local best buy and buy it directly.

Last i checked, laptops came with different plugs.

If i'm going to spend the money. I'll buy the invertor. It'll use the included laptop charger and anything else that needs 120 volts.

It's a Thermo King inverter. I used it yesterday. Works great. But the outdoor WiFi at this J blows.

I'm supposed to be able to use my phone as a mobile wifi hot spot, and my laptop sees it, but will not connect to it.

    Any suggestions?

I got lucky and got a spot in the lounge yesterday and used the indoor wifi, I have 4 modules to do for LS, did CSA & hazmat yesterday, hardest hazmat I've taken, took a good 8 hours or so for both of them, have 2 left to do today, but they aren't near as involved.

I dropped my hazmat. I think it's easy if you're familiar with everything but for those of us that never haul. Tough to remember.
