Make sure the truck you test in has air brakes.

You need to learn there is a difference between actual weight and rated weight. When you test I have a serious doubt you will test in a loaded vehicle. Just make sure said vehicle has all of its permits and other legals up to date and can pass a brief look over by the examiner. Like Chinatown said, it will make life easier for you if you test in a vehicle with air brakes. This is another reason I highly advise people to test in the proper vehicle. Because I know of no vehicle outside of a school bus type that requires a CDL to drive that does not come without air brakes.

Whoa there Moose, I am replying to his question about a tractor, not a pickup truck.

He asked, I properly answered it with the caveat that if it is hooked up to a trailer that has a gvw of 10k or more, then it can't be used.

Here is what he is using as a reference -

AND I agree with you, examiners will refuse to allow a test to be taken in an under 26k, I added this to my post - "HOWEVER do not drive it there alone, if you have a permit, then driving with a class B or A driver is required and the examiner may not even give you a road test because of it."

As answered by Moose, so you have it wrong. it isn't what it weighs, it is what it is allowed to haul by the manufacturer's sticker on the door - that is what the examiner may check.

By the way, please tell us that you have tested for airbrakes for your permits because you won't be allowed to use that truck without it.

    Thanks everyone for your help.
I went to the testing office yesterday and he told me to make my life easier to just upgrade to a class a.
I will be going to the dmv today to upgrade to class a.
After I pass I can test in the vehicle class a manual they have there.
    Thank You.

Ridgeline I apologize. For the last several days I have been trying to get a knothead in a facebook group to understand The FMCSA defines a CMV 2 ways. One is the 26,001 pound thing for the CDL and the 10,001 thing as a CMV. Although you are not required to have a CDL to drive a CMV under 26,001 you still have to have a medical card. When I saw that 10K comment I developed a brainfart.

    Mr Budeedee Thanks this.

I actually was planning to suggest this yesterday but decided to drop it. Getting the A takes a bit more testing and makes the road test a bit harder in the end you are so much better off.

Don't need to apologize, I get it, don't get offended easily, I just clarify what I said.

I thought I saw something like that on FB, I know on another forum I saw some nasty and stupid advice for this the other day and posted the link to the FMCSA site to make the idiot shut up.

    Mr Budeedee Thanks this.
