Take up space is right. They're so cumbersome and bulky and in the way. Especially since they're obviously not being used. I guess the cost to tear them down doesn't justify doing so. I know the one at the Pilot on I-70 in Missouri at the 101 looks like it's been bashed into and backed into many many times over the years. I guess they're just letting "nature" take its course and if they get slammed into enough and come down, mission accomplished

Wow. It's funny how things change over the years. Before long IdleAire will be like the payphone and people just won't believe that's actually how things were!

Charging more than you could rent a hotel room for the night might have had something to do with them going under.

miss elvee, motocross25 and Longarm Thank this.

They was AFTER they went under, then another company got a HUGE government grant to open them back up with lower cost supplemented by more government grants. When they originally came out they were very expensive. Like 49.95 or some silly high number per 24 hour period. This was back when you could easily find a decent hotel for 39 a night.

That's crazy! It's like Chick says on the Bob and Tom Show - " for that kind of money, somebody better be having an orgasm." And I'm guessing rendering the services of IdleAire was on the driver? Or would some companies pick up the tab to reduce idle time?

There were a few companies that advertised it a a perk. Thing is though, if a company was willing to pay for IdleAir they were willing to pay for the less expensive hotel rooms.

    Thanks for calling me old.

little yellow boxes on the ground between parking spots you coups plug a cable into for tv. They had the added benefit of waking you up in the morning when it threw your coffee into your lap as you pulled out. Fairly certain that's what broke the front spring on my pete in 98
