You dont need to go otr to get local. Just go local if that what you want

Often for the high paying LTL jobs, the guys with OTR (or any experience for that matter) will take precedence . . . at least around here, anyway. O/P sounds in a better place for such opportunities than myself, though. The few LTL's around here finally called me back once I was already into my current tanker gig. Railyards are big opportunities; might be something for O/P to look into, as well.
Once you have your CDL in hand, drive around.... get numbers and call them; even walk in offices with certificate in hand. What've ya got to lose?

Don't limit yourself to Otr some local companies do take recent cdl graduates. But not all, loves does hire straight out of school for fuel, and crude. But it's up to the discretion of the regional manager.

Great advice. Clean MVR / CDL sometimes trumps experience, ya know? I'm sure it will even moreso after this holiday LONG weekend, unfortunately. I volunteered to work; bet it will be fun out here.

@Mike2633 ... were you OTR before you got your gig? I know you (and Bob) are in better lanes than the O/P probably, however.

    Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

Right now my current area sucks. 100 miles any direction and i have better options for food service, ltl and also furniture. Montgomery is 100 miles east, Tuscaloosa is 100 miles north east, jackson 100 miles west, tupelo 150 miles north, Hattiesburg 100 miles south. Im right in the middle and all companies forgot about meridian

Well, dang. Sorry. Don't know the area at all, but 100 miles each way is a long commute, that's for sure. Just get your CDL, and be aware of any opportunities that might arise, in the mean time.
