Sounds fishy. Not saying that it isn't legit, but be careful. As others have said, if it's a 1099 get it in writing and make sure all the I's are dotted and T's are crossed. If you can't understand all of it, find someone to help you make sense of it so you don't get screwed.
Job opportunity. Too good to be true?

If your cousin is on the account ask him how it works. This seems like a logical course of action yes?
tinytim and Steelhauler1246 Thank this. -

Dude, I have one truck with a team in it going from San Diego to NYC (2800 miles) every once in a while, they gross on the trip one way what you get for a round trip. The longest dedicated I have in the fleet grosses about $1.10 a mile for the driver.

I missed it, when did the OP say it was a 1099 gig? How does you friend get paid?
-
When he paid you did he withhold taxes, social security, etc?
SingingWolf Thanks this. -
Look at it this way, even if that's the case, it might work out to be the equivalent of a job that pays 17-18/hr with OT after 8 hrs.
Especially if you're not sitting around waiting for a backhaul.. you blast over to the east coast, reload and head back.
All said and done, that may only be the equivalent of 35-40 cents per mile, but you'll still prolly do better than a lot of folks doing 50cpm who spend half their time sitting around waiting on loads.. and far better than someone at Schneider , Werner , swift, etc -
