I just came here to vent.

I just completed day two (of twelve) of my OTR training with a company trainer.

Nice guy. Been doing this a long time, all with this company.

This guy stays out five and six weeks at a time, then goes home for five or six days. He lives in his truck WAY more than he lives in his house. I get that. Going in, I did not expect a spotless vehicle. There's not a lot of space for two grown men to live in for twelve days. I knew space would be tight. I retired from the military a few years ago, I am okay with living in cramped and austere conditions like a tent in Afghanistan.

Now that I’ve caveated with all that, HOLY ####ING #### THIS TRUCK IS DIRTY! I can barely see the gauges when I drive because of the layer of stuck, scummy film on them. There are streaks on the inside of the windshield that I can’t get off with the cleaner I have (lens wipes, basically). I dropped something on the floor and when I picked it up it was sticking to the carpet. When I say dirty, I mean DIIIIIIIRRRRTTTYYY.

    Thanks for listening.

Like I said, he’s a nice guy. He probably doesn’t see the things I see. I get that and I can deal with it. I’ll be fine, only ten days to go.

Looks like you should tell him to clean the truck. Or tell the company to get you another trainer.

Side note I'm sure a little lizard spit will cut right through all of that grime!

I'm hoping to get to the Houston bulk OC so I can face-to-face with my Driver Business Leader tomorrow. My trainer seems against it, but if I'm driving I might just take us there, it's less than an hour away from our unload.

Just put up with it for what?? 10 days?
    You can do it.
And ask if he has cleaning supplies and clean up a little in your downtime. If he doesn't , oh well, it's just a few more days and you'll have your own truck

Look I'm not going to be anything but straight with you.

Make it a point to stop at Walmart when you are empty, get a few rolls of paper towel, simple green cleaner and a bottle of Walmart brand window cleaner. Tell him in no certain terms that you refuse to work and live your in a dirty truck, tell him even in the military you didn't have to live like that. Be frank with the guy, tell him you will clean part of the truck and he will clean the other part of it.

    Why?

Because I don't care how much you live in that truck, it is ok for him to live this way but to expect anyone else to live like that is very very disrespectful to that person and if you accept it, to me that a sign of disrespecting yourself.

I know this is hard to believe but even the worst weather and conditions, my truck was clean. The floor was always cleaned, the sleeper was cluttered but clean.

Now my drivers keep the trucks clean and in the beginning when I also otr, I would spot check the trucks when I would run into them on the road, I expect my drivers to drive with pride and not a pig stye. I had only a few drivers who didn't keep up to my standards but clean enough.

You would think a Schneider Training Engineer would be better than that. Especially when they are supposed to be setting the example

Grab a canister of dusting spray and a rag and go to town. Maybe he'll see the error of his ways. I can detail a Peterbilt 379 cab and 48" high rise bunk from floor to ceiling in 90 minutes with the right tools. Lasts several weeks with minor dash dusting here and there and keeping muddy shoes outside.

A clean truck shouldn't be hard to achieve for any driver.

It could be a lot worse a dirty truck, and a trainer who showers once a week.

Some of you guys are cut out of a different cloth than me. My trainer from 9 years ago was an old dude who's truck was similar to the truck described.

On top of that, he was a smoker, so you can imagine the layer of residue. I don't smoke, however, he was considerate enough to roll his window down when he smoked and didn't smoke in the truck when were stopped.

There weren't any non-smoking trainers available at the time and I REALLY needed to get to work and make some money. So, I sucked it up and stuck it out for 10 days.
