What a night. 2245 gate time, so I show up in plenty of time to hook my set. I hook up and PTI, inside flat on my rear box so I head around the building to the shop. On the way I notice the pressure gauge is showing my lead is really light in the nose so I run across the scale. 14k in the front, 20750 on the rear. I call dispatch, and they give me a door to get reworked. I drop the rear at the shop, put my lead back in the dock and wait. They decide to pull off a 2k pallet which is good, but they have to move a crap ton of light boxes to get to it.
Finally get buttoned up again and run back to the shop certain that my rear will be done...but it isn't. It's still jacked up with just the hub peeking out on the left side. I hunt around for the mechanic and he finally comes out of the restroom with a newspaper under his arm.
"Ever since I had my gallbladder out, the urge just strikes out of nowhere!"
More likely the urge strikes due to the need to do a little work, but I hold my tongue since I still need my trailer. This is the 2nd time he's got me though, so I scratch him off my list of reliables. The other guy on duty though is nicknamed Turtle, so I don't have any good options anyway. Long story short, I finally leave the lot at 0015.
I get to St Louis and my assignment back is a relay from Kansas City that is already hooked. Glad to finally catch a break, I back under it and start my inspection. No tail lights on the dolly. I was sorely tempted to just run with it, but I'm always on my kids to do things right every time. I'd feel like a ####### if I didn't hold myself to the same standard, so I switched out dollies. I even wrote it up so someone else wouldn't get stuck with it. All's well that ends well, and it was still a better night than the p&d flatbed runs I used to do where I had to tarp 4-5 times a day.Gearjammin' Penguin, misterG, Bob Dobalina and 2 others Thank this. -

Off topic, but just last night in the mountains here (Rockies) one semi hit another one parked, I don't get that, such a large vehicle pulled off the road and still gets hit. One burst into flames, killed the driver of the parked semi and ejected the passenger of the same truck, driver who caused it sent to the hospital. There was a bus driver here once who slammed into the back of a semi, full bus of kids too.
