Extroverts....how do you make it OTR?

I hear and read TONS of negative news and stories about how horrible life is for OTR drivers. I can see a "solitary person" who doesn't enjoy too much interaction with people, likes to be alone, loves the open road ALL THE TIME....but what about "the extroverts?" (those who like to hang around and be around people)???

I'm a extrovert and i enjoy interacting with people. Not sure if i could do OTR so that's why i'm bringing it up.
    • How do extroverts handle being OTR?
    • Are Extroverts happy doing the Job...if so, how do they find contentment driving OTR?
    Anyway, thanks for your input...

after sitting behind the wheel all day (or night long) then sitting at the truck stop counter, you will become an introvert faster than you can say, "Dudley Do Right, I'm off to the mountains"....

Go to any truckstop diner and you will find all your extrovert buddies crammed together at the counter. Usually still wearing their headsets.

Or if the diner isn't an option, just turn your radio to 19 and you will surely find someone on there eager to chat.

Just ... if you're going to carry on a long-winded, one-sided conversation with every cashier you think is as chatty as you, wear a sign on your back so I'll know not to get in line behind you. I've got wheels to get turnin'

Don t forget the fuel island, TV lounge, or laundry area too. Also, there are certain shippers and receivers that won t let you be in the truck while unloading or loading, and there will be a lounge or waiting area with other drivers. So there is plenty of opportunity to be an extrovert

Contrary to popular belief and whatever source you're getting your info from, not all drivers are fat, effeminate, antisocial losers. Trucking is what you make it. Those people that want to be smelly and unhappy and alone were smelly and alone BEFORE they were old enough to drive, but they want to paint a picture for you as to what this industry is. You do understand what I mean when I say that trucking is what you make it, right?

What is it that you really like to do? I will wager money that you can find others with the same interests and even arrange your schedules to meet up. You want it? Do it.

I was at a truckstop, chatting with some heavyhaulers in a parkinglot. A Roehl doorslammer gets out of his truck and starts playing the bagpipes. Instantly, he drew a crowd. I can't play, but I sure can appreciate when others can. What do you think the odds are that every time he stops and gets out of the truck, that Roehl driver has people coming up to him requesting Amazing Grace?

I am very much an introvert and I am home every other weekend and it's to long for me, I find myself missing my normal outdoor hobbies and it drives me crazy. I would completely lose my mind if I had to be out longer then that. And I am a very quiet, shy person and enjoy my solitude.

Just drive slow. Most everyone that passes will want special attention from you. Some sort of signal that it's ok to pass. You can just wave at everyone that passes and not even know what's in front of you just like them. Everyone is gawking at everyone else instead of driving like they are trying to go somewhere.

    No problemo
