    Thanks for the input.

I've had a general interest in moving South just because the winter is a pain in the ###. Or at least it has been when our customers don't care to plow and salt. Wisconsin does usually get the highway cleaned up, but a lot of customers seemed to give up caring about cleaning up their yards by February/March.

I'm not set on just Vegas, but Nevada or the Southwest seems like it has the most consistent weather.

    $40K - looks good.
For people low on cash, a "rent-to-own" works. Friend of mine did that and loves his new house. "rentown.net" is a website for that but there's other ways to find those.

Don't forget that there is a trade off. The summers are a hot bich, even for those of us who've been in the desert for many years. And don't think you will totally get away from single digit weather. For the most part, it doesn't get that cold. But it does on occasion.
Also realize that you might actually miss the snow. Um, scratch that, nevermind...:D
FWIW, I did see snow in El Centro. Seriously. But not a serious storm, just a pretty unusual one. It didn't stick to the ground at all.

If trucking doesn't work for you in Vegas, get your passenger endorsement. My father ran airport shuttles for Grayline and did alright. I think Vegas is one of the few places you could even drive a school bus year round due to a lot of their schools not having a traditional summer off.

I've thought about moving to Vegas myself and noticed that Tru-Line company has always been on Craigslist daily with multiple listings. They were a crappy company in the 90's and I don't imagine they've changed much since the way they own Craigslist.

I've seen OD post openings every other month, Las Vegas Paving needs drivers also. That's year round construction work unlike other areas of the country. There's good jobs looking for drivers if you look a little harder than the usual places.

First clue that a place sucks to work at is if they have the same want ads on Craigslist every day.

I thought about it and I just don't see myself doing passenger unfortunately even though I understand other do okay with tourism. I'm not a people person and I think that's why I've wound up as a truck driver in the first place. I just know eventually there will be noisy people in the back and I'll want to turn around and tell them to ####.

Is it mostly a dry heat at least?

What I know I could not handle is summer in a place like Miami with crazy humidity.

Also, I'm not sure I want to buy a home if I wind up doing something like Regional OTR and I leave a lawn that goes to ####. I figure I'd just rent until I get established.

Or perhaps like at my current company, I kind of live out of the truck and get mail at my parents' house and store a few things there.
