and guess who will wind up paying more for goods hauled by truck? the consumer ie you and me.
what an insult for the government to put training wheels on you and then you wind up paying more for stuff you buy for your family
What do you think will happen after the ELDs kick in?

Who wants to be on-call 24/7 ? That's one thing I never like. It not like they are paying use to be available to work 24/7. They want to pay use by the mile but be available to work 24/7. The 14 hour rule and ELDs foce someone else to be responsible for the screw up. The trucking company will be forced to let driver park and sleep. Then shipper and receivers will hopefully have to pay detention pay or a higher rate per mile when they don't get their loads on time. They can load truck faster or ELDs will show the problem with the HOS and they might change them.
I think they will have to load and unload trucks faster. I don't think the public will go for drivers working more hourspeterd Thanks this. -

I say only bureaucrats and people who drive 4-wheel vehicles pay extra for their goods delivered by a big truck.

I could live with the current HOS except 14 hour rule. I can only imagine, it was invented by bold heads dressed in white gowns in some lab doing some lame "it has to be proven" research. Then the "scientists" would conclude affirmatively their research and publish their findings in white papers. There you have your expertise on "fatigue while staying alert for 14 hours", proving the 14 hour rule is essential. How can anyone argue with that?
But they did not recognize the fact that 14 hour may shift your sleeping pattern and put you at risk of driving when your body needs to rest the most. They assumed that one can "fall asleep" and rest any time of a day .Not too mention all the logistic issues, but these are out of scope of the lab research, of course. -
Flat tires and blow outs will all of a sudden become a big deal. Anything over 2 hours 10 minutes to a replace a bad tire will start eating your 11 hour driving clock. That's taking into consideration a 30 min off duty break and 20 minutes to fuel. Boom!
Edit: Make that 2 hours 40 minutes until it starts eating your 11 hour clock. You can be logged off duty while the tire is being replaced. If you are unfortunate enough to have taken your 30 before the blowout, the original statement stands.Last edited: Jul 15, 2017

The only thing elogs does is keep drivers from lieing.
Every one of these posts is a reason we need elogs.
"I had a flat tire so I tore out that log sheet and changed everything so I could make it to this buffet, on elogs I would have had to stop 30 miles back and ate at the Arby's" -
JimmyWells and tucker Thank this.
