Hey y'all. Greetings from Cartersville. Have you noticed I'm here a lot? So, yesterday I called this morning's final and asked about parking. On satellite it appeared as if the had plenty of room, but most of that lot belongs to another company. They had no room to park overnight, but the guy I spoke to told me there was a small lot on the corner that had room for a couple trucks. On the map it looked microscopic. But, I took a chance and headed there anyhow. I ended up being the only truck there (for now) so I positioned myself in a way that made for an easy exit in case other trucks showed up. That turned out to be a good call, I had 2 neighbors when I woke up. My appointment was for 10:30am but I was told that I could check in at 7 and maybe get a dock early. I was unloaded before 9am, and was at my next load by 11! In perfect fashion, Opie gave me a load that picked up in Cherokee and dropped in Cville. I now have a load going to Mogadore, my usual load for going home. My appointment is for 9am Thursday. This load is an exception at that place, though. There are 2 docks specifically for roll stock, and it's first come first served. I'm gonna try and be there when they open at 6 (unofficially) and beat the rush. Then it's time to get my tail home and get to work. I have a lot of ground to cover while I'm there, hopefully I won't piss mama off. Also have to spend as much time as possible with my daughter before she heads out. She's going into high school this year, and she's in the marching band and heading to band camp Sunday night. Also gotta slide in a celebration dinner with wifey. She just had a birthday a couple days ago, and tomorrow marks the one year date for me at Millis. For that there will be some killer food, plenty of adult beverages, and brown chickens & cows. If you get that joke, I appreciate you as a human :) If I was feeling extra motivated today, I could push a little further north and then reach my home truck stop tomorrow. However, that motivation is non-existent. Plus, I have zero desire to leave home, climb in the truck, and make a delivery. That would just be depressing. So I'm gonna grab a reuben and a beer here and hit the sack. This has been a fitting road run for the final days of my first year in trucking. When I get home, I will have been out for 8 and a half weeks. Circumstances dictated that it was necessary. Circumstances, bills, whatever. I know this...I ain't doin' that again, for sure. I hope you guys had a good day today. I'm calling it a night, I'll talk at ya tomorrow. Keep the rubber side down and be safe out there. Peace y'all.

Hi SJ. Would just like to thank you for your updates. I start class in Trenton on Monday and your posts have really helped in having an idea what to expect. I took an early retirement package about a month ago and am really looking forward to the experience. My family owns a gravel quarry and trucking business and I worked my way through college driving dump trucks and lowboy drags so this isn't new to me but it has been almost 30 years. To better show how long it has been, the first 2 trucks I drove were a 1960's gas engine Diamond REO and a 1974 Autocar with an 18 speed. Bonus points to anyone who knows what either one of those were.

Thank God I got rerouted to Rome then! :-D

Just got off the phone with @Steelersjunkie . Thanks for the advice man. If there're two people I want to meet it's you and @keen98 .

For the guys and gals just entering school, stick with it, learn, ask questions. I'm still a newbie here at Millis, just tested out on 6-16-17. William has been running my butt off since then and I'm lovin' it. Y'all are welcome to hit me up with questions too.

Thanks. I'm sure I will have lots of questions. Hoping the driving and truck systems parts will come back pretty quick. Mostly worried about dealing with the lifestyle, clock management and dealing with shippers/receivers. That will all be new. Hopefully what was fun at 23 years old will still be fun at 55. I did work for about a year as a dispatcher for a now defunct LTL carrier so maybe that experience will help a little as well.

I live only about 30 miles from Trenton, right off 275 near Milford, Ohio. Curious to see how that will play out. Seems like it may give some opportunities for 34 hr resets at home but that's just me speculating.

    Steelersjunkie and bigred81 Thank this.
