I've been to over 90% of the truck stops mentioned and the worst thing that happened was panhandling or a man wanting to sell me a fake necklace. Thing is the locals know exactly who to prey on.

    Be safe.

I've stayed at all these truck stops over the years. You need to be concerned with non-drivers for the most part, such as beggars and thieves looking to steal your load locks or tarps etc. to sell. And working girls too. BTW, the working girls wouldn't be there IF the drivers didn't partake of their "offerings", right ? However I did have fuel stolen at the Loves in Joseph City, Az. while I was sleeping. And it was another driver parked next to me. His mechanical pump he used woke me up and I thought it was his APU kicking in. So I ignored it.

Anyway as you travel the highways of this country you see EVERYTHING, right ?

The Pilot in South Dallas often has an armed, uniformed Dallas police officer providing security if that tells you anything.

Back in the day before they closed the bar in it. It was a hopping truck stop. But they supposed to tear it down and rebuild the one in Frazier park

And they like to call the cops on drivers who complain about being booted (not me).

I pulled in there tired as hell one night and just went to sleep. A few minutes later, I heard someone knocking on my door. I ignored it, figuring it was a lot lizard or somebody else I didn't feel like talking to.

Another few minutes goes by and I can see red and blue lights flashing through the curtains... they had the driver in the truck next to me in handcuffs and hauled him off to jail.

The next morning, I woke up and saw they had booted his truck. Only then, did I notice the sign with the dire warnings about paying to park "or else we'll boot you!!!"

I went into the store and asked the cashier about it, told her I didn't pay the previous night... she wasn't too concerned. No boot on my truck so I got the hell out of there and never came back.

I keep hoping they'll go out of business but somehow they manage to scrape by.
