    Hi,
For the guys/gals already on the road, do you mind sharing your thoughts on the 2 different pay options and if it's not too personal, which you chose, why, and if it's working for you? My hubby had assumed he would take the straight pay option, but is interested in the bonus options he learned about this week. I don't want to start a debate or anything, we just really value you all's thoughts and opinions. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Also, about how many miles are people who are OTR getting a week? Is there a big difference in miles week to week?

I'm averaging around 2800 a week. I'm on straight pay. I am honestly on that pay plan because I didn't want the hassle at tax time. Everyone has different reasons for their choice, and different financial situations. It's all subjective really.

Talk to your accountant. There are pros and cons both ways. Weigh your options.

Im on per diem and the main reason for it is i pay child support. Basically your going to make the same either way you choose, its just a matter of taxes. Everybodys situation regarding taxes, dependants, etc are different. Like steelers said your best bet is to talk to whoever does your taxes, and they should know how to do taxes for a OTR driver and can tell you which fits your situation best.
As for miles if I run the weekend I'm normally always over 3000 and usually between 3200-3500 but it does vary from week to week. But not that much, if I dont hit 3000 I'm at like 2850-2950 then and something occured that week that stopped me from 3000. My go home weeks are low, but I usually go home on Thurs thru Tuesday so that week i go home i get 1500ish.

Oh also if you are going to be getting a mortgage or car loan soon you're better off on straight pay. Straight pay will show a higher gross income than per diem, so banks may not loan as much to you being on per diem
