I am the shipper and the trucking company. We ship live fish. We ain't parking the $#&%$ truck unless we have to. We did one run last winter with 278 miles on chains.

Parking the truck is fine if you are hauling Twinkies for a buck a mile. A lot of stuff simply has to move.

Your statement was that the HOS slowed people down, and I showed you that was a very narrow view. HOS actually makes us run harder and faster and less safe.

Yeah they slow the truck down to run legal. You park the truck and run legal. Sounds like you don't want to do that.

Hard of reading? We run ABSOLUTELY legal. PERIOD. And to do that, we have to cut out the nap, and drive straight through. If there were no HOS, drivers could take a nice nap and be much safer. Drivers would be much less disrupted in their sleep patterns. Before the 14 hr rule, EVERY driver on that run DID. Now, can't rest, got to get there before your 14 runs out.

Your choosing to run straight thru and not rest because of the 14 hour rule. Now you have options. You could put two drivers on the truck but that will cost more. Plus it's not really a team run because one driver can do it now if he his forced to drive straight thru.

How much risk do you want to take. You can risk and hope the drivers never fall asleep and wrecks the truck and load. I think you have options and it just depends on if your willing to pay the price. You seem hooked on the idea that drivers have to run straight thru and can't stop for anything.

If that's true and the load is booked that tight on time. Since it's fish and they can't sit parked for long periods. Seems like the easy answer if you care about the drivers is. You need two driver on the run. Plus if your hauling one of those specialized fish trailers you must be going back empty or something

Before you come back with some answer. I don't know your whole operation. How about running split sleeper. I guess your drivers will have to run all 14 hours straight thru. If that's the deal you got and pay them for.

All I know is I have run both paper and e-logs. I made more money with e-logs than paper.

Maybe elogs are good maybe not we should be able to chose. It is one more step of government control. I think we should fight every inch, tooth and nail, the government tries to take. You like a lot of drivers are ok with that because it is a "commercial vehicle". I think just because I hold a cdl I should not have to give up my rights as an American citizen.
I know I know it's all about safety...... and I'm the one that's been drinking koolaid. I've said it before I think your un-American if you're pro mandatory elogs.

People seem to forget your driving a commercial vehicle. That has lots of regulations from the government on every aspect of the vehicle. Including how many hours you can drive it. It's not your private vehicle it's a commercial vehicle. You choose to give up your privacy every time you get in a commercial vehicle and you agreed to follow the HOS.

Maybe we need another HOS rule for different driving time and rest breaks. They are looking into 3/7 split sleeper rules and other options.

What rights are you giving up by having an elog in the truck? The Elog mandate is not about safety but forced compliance. I don't agree they improve safety. I think HOS don't work but you'll never improve the situation if a large portion of the industry can pencil in the time they need. Like I said earlier, the majority of paper log users are not running two books and other crazy stuff but doing common sense little things to get the job done. These little things are perceived to be business as usual but you're falsifying your logs whether you admit it or not. If you can eliminate the falsification for everyone it brings to light just how bad HOS is and In the coming years we could see changes. Being a trucker does not make us special nor is being a one truck guy like myself any different than the guy that runs a lawn care business. A business is a business. Trucking may be important to the economy but it is not deserving of special treatment or veneration.
