my truck broke down today, the cooling fan clutch failed. the truck had to go to a repair center and i ended up going home early today, as there was no truck for me to drive. i went and filled out an application at another company. they said it looked good and were going to be running my MVR. if everything looked decent they are likely going to have me go for a roadtest and they are currently looking to add some drivers.

question is unless they are willing do a road-test on a Saturday, what do you tell the current boss? sorry i cant drive today, the question is going to be WHY.

Dunno about you, but I'm feeling awfully sick today *cough, cough*. I think it's one of those 24-hr things going around.

    that can get him fired.

never tell your current employer you are seeking a new job. from that point, they know you have no desire to work there, and they will cut him loose. not bad really, but then if they are members of DAC, they can say he was fired. then he'd have to explain the firing, to yet ANOTHER job, should this new one crap out!

and also, being fired can make it difficult to collect unemployment as well, if his new job craps out..

it' would have been better if he "quits for a new job, rather than be fired" to be eligible for unemployment.

If you're already at the road test stage, how long before you're hired? What ever happened to 2 week notice? Common courtesy so you don't screw your boss.

just because someone takes a road test, doesn't mean they still have the job. you under the impression everything is etched in stone? after my 35+ years, buddy, i ain't.

besides this, he hasn't had his drug screening yet. they may even send him for a physical. nothing is guaranteed.
