One thing many people don't realize is that a majority of us are self governed already.

Fuel savings alone is a big enough motivation.

My ISX equipped units jump from 6.3 mpg at 70mph to 8.1 mpg at 65mph. Multiply that out - and that's a new pickup truck every year in fuel savings.

I am in what many would consider an ancient Freightliner FL80 and i'm set at 68mph. I can bump it up to 70 if the conditions are just right but 90%of the time the cut off kicks in at 68mph. I have been driving that truck for almost 14 years never had a speeding ticket and get great fuel mileage. I do think 65 is too slow, but I do appreciate being able to pass someone easily at 68, especially when trying to get up a steep grade.

We had our meeting today -

65 mile an hour is a definite by August 28

All new tractors brought on must-have factory installed lane departure and auto braking

And to soften the blow of all of this new rules / contractor mileage rate is going up substantially

    Cheer up.

Arkansas Law approves 75 on our highways and 65 on rural roads.

That does not make it mandatory for our Highway dept to start slapping 75 on 30 and 40....

I think our Legislators understand that the bulk of rush approach 90 in herd think and I cruise at 80 sometimes.

75 is way too fast for Arkansas, they'll be way more bad wrecks and it'll take longer to get through that state.
And if they had more police and higher fines, the herd would slow down

We already have wrecks every week, every day or two on 40. Most of our rural roads lose it and wreck when they fail to come out of the corners. I hate to be ... cavalier but here in the Arkansas life and cars are cheaper. If you wreck, you wreck. People are not inclined to worry about that too much down here.

You cannot fine a herd. If you are on 67 at around 6 in the morning to 7 am, you are going to be run over by a 90 to 100 mph herd prior to consitruction. Once construction is finished and it becomes three lane further up... all the police in the world will not stop this thundering herd. No different than say I-270 in Maryland or Route 97. Best police can do is grab one or two at a time.

What will stop it is technology to record tags and vehicles violating enmasse and mountains of tickets mailed. But Arkansas is somewhat backwards in that way. That will be far in to the future.

As far as the time it takes to get through, it is managed by using certain roadways. US65 comes to mind. We are working on that problem. But many are still gravel and mud from the old days. That will take a while.

I come from Maryland where I was raised, beautiful powerful road network with a army to clear it in the winter. But here in the South? Ha. You learned to stay home a week or so until the ice clears. Work can wait another day.

The factory installed safety equipment will make it hard to find a truck on a dealers lot, probably have to order trucks. Also glider trucks will be a no go, atleast Fitzgerald...

    Not really.

All 2018's have this braking system crap standard.

Fitzgerald uses rolling stock of current model years - so you can get those electronics in their setups.

I propose we walk around headquarters randomly making weird sounds as people are trying to get things done. Loud annoying sounds
and then, every so often for no reason, just take their computer and toss it on the ground.

welcome to the world of enhanced breaking and lane departure warnings.

I'm sorry, were you trying to get important work done?

yeah, me too, QUIT BOTHERING ME WHILE I'M DRIVING.

speedyk, spectacle13, kwk100e and 3 others Thank this.
