If anything, in that situation, the payday for the "victims" will increase exponentially because the driver's (and therefore the company's) negligence is on full display. There is no denying it or the plaintiff having to jump through hoops with cell phone records and such to try to prove, as it's all right there on the video. So now, that hard-fought $200,000 settlement becomes a $20,000,000 in the blink of an eye. And if it is company policy to have these cameras, you aren't going to be able to deny that the footage exists during discovery without opening a whole other can of worms, including potential criminal charges for destruction of evidence and such. Bottom line, those cameras will do more to increase payouts than to decrease them. A forward facing dash cam (showing the road ahead) will do more to protect the company than the driver facing cam will ever hope to. Why? Because it might show the other party at fault. That driver cam's BEST CASE scenario is that it shows you weren't doing anything you shouldn't have been doing...but if you're at fault for the wreck, it really won't matter and they probably WILL find something you did wrong.

I cannot accept such a employ.

One of my most treasured skills other than mountain work is the honed experience in battle horsing a big truck where necessary to save a life and property where possible. I have been extremely lucky and feel blessed with such a good tool in my driving over the years.

Other than getting good sleep, I advocate cameras that face outwards so that whatever comes up making it necessary to unpack and deploy a decision in a few seconds time to get it done will all be there on tape.

When I say I cannot accept such a employer, those kinds of people automatically think I am some kind of black hat trouble maker enemy. Nothing cannot be further from the truth. However I am not PC and I do enjoy and actually relax a touch when that trailer is coming around a little bit for a good reason.

It seems like Swift turned off the driver facing camera, but still use the outward one.

Mine goes off during hard braking or even over severe bumps. Even had it trigger when I swerved to avoid a car that cut me off and when bumping a dock too hard.

Once I had 3 trigger events in a 4 hr period, but the only time I had a safety intervention is when I had to hit the brakes because I missed seeing an approaching car at a stop sign. I knew I had messed up so took my medicine as it came. All the other instances were not noted or if they were, safety made the decision that I didn't need to be brought in.

Not saying there aren't companies out there that use it as a stick to beat their drivers with, but there is at least one that doesn't.

As for swift switching off driver facing, that thought did cross my mind when I passed a swift driver on Wednesday that had his phone in hand, squarely in front of his face.

I had a camera for the first 2 months, the only time it tripped was in rough parking lots, then they adjusted it and I had to call in almost every day,

Oh my. Don't go to the Triple T in Tuscon then. That camera will fall off and bounce along side you.. he he.

What a time sink those #### things are. A little bump here or a drag there does not hurt no one. What is going on in those offices...

Ours go off at every little bump. Every threshold from the street to the parking lot, any little movement from side to side, any acceleration to try to get going from a stop etc etc.

It's actually silly. It goes off several times a day, for literally over 100 drivers, and only 1 guy has been called in so far for a violation. I don't even think they monitor it unless there's an actual accident

I was off for a week and another driver drove "my" truck for that week.He taped camera lens over with electrical tape and I am not removing it.Company I drive for has a policy of fining drivers who tape over cam lens $100 but so far I haven't been fined or even talked to about it.I also learned lately that plenty of drivers taped over that inward facing lens.Well,I guess they are really hurting for drivers.

I actually believe its more of a liability for the company to have driver facing cameras. If there is an accident, any footage will be used against the company and driver.
