    Think about it. You were offered a lie to a direct question, and when you confronted him with the fact that his answer could not possibly be true, THEN he 'fessed up.

    When you catch a person being untruthful, how can you trust ANYTHING they offer from that point on?

    Now, let me give you another pearl of wisdom.

    Just because you are offered more per-mile by a company, it is no indication that you will make more money. If you are making 10 cents per mile less per week, but are getting 3,000 miles per week consistently, and at 10 cents more per mile at the other company, you are averaging 1,000 miles less per week, who is making more money?

    You also need to look at things like what your contributions to your benefit package will look like. Are issues like layover, detention, or breakdown addressed and is there a no-nonsense policy in place to assure that you will not lose too much revenue in cases like this?

    Only considering the pay-per-mile figure is a sure way to make a mistake, and people are lured into adverse situations when they do it. And when you only make that consideration, you play right into their hands like putty.

    Look at the BIG picture to discover if that .42 cpm is worth a leap. It's only as good as the miles you will be allowed to drive. If you come up short on miles, your pay will be just as short.

    Here's a hint: The number one complaint about JB Hunt is in regard to inadequate miles, and you will find this over and over, if you take the time to read the testimonies of others who have been down that road.

    I'm impressed with your tenacity and apparent competence. Only one question: Why in HE** did you waste your time with TL freight? It's pretty much the same sorry situation anywhere you go.

    I quit J.B. (my first of only 2 TL carrier employers - more on the second one at a later date) after only 45 days. With no OTR experience at this point I was originally forced to ride with a fa**ot who couldn't stay out of adult bookstores and adult topless bars. For those who don't know, topless bars have been the major meeting places and pickup points for fa**ots (married ones at that) forever. I spoke to my assigned dispatcher after only a week with the first 'fool' and was switched to another 'trainer'. After one short trip with the 'trainer' I should have been assigned to in the beginning I was turned loose to create 'mayhem' on my own.

    Afterwards, after receiving numerous broken promises to get me back by my home in FL (after 5 weeks on my own non stop) I dropped off the loaded truck on the ATL yard, quit on the spot and never looked back. The pay scheme is a 'rip-off' at any rate but the chance to enhance my 'resume' seemed irresistible at the time. The fa**ot 'trainer' said he was bound for a position at J.B. training facility in Lowell - unbelievable? Perhaps not in the current scheme of things.


    People who do TL freight fall into two categories:

    1. Completely inexperienced people who don't have a clue;

    2. Live in an economically 'blighted' area where TL freight is considered a 'good job' as working at the local dog food factory for minimum wage just won't cut it.

    I kinda had one foot each in both of the above categories.



    I can't even look at my current terminal manager with a straight face as he wasted no time destroying his credibility when we first met. One of the very first things out of his mouth was his lengthy prior service as an OTR driver with another infamous TL carrier I won't name at this point. I wasn't impressed then or now; I haven't quit my current employer (get ready for a big 'splash' on this board over the next several days regarding this) as this 'fool' has predictably turned out to be a completely disreputable 'tu*d'. Nothing new here unfortunately.


    My advice for what it's worth:

    Don't waste your time responding to the obvious 'lobotomized fools' cluttering up this board. High personal and business ethical standards are everything despite trends to the contrary.

    TL freight is a complete 'bust' for most everyone but a very select few. TLF is a 'dumping ground' for those who have no other driving resources, experience or career options - like volunteering for the military at this point. Don't have to look far to realize this is a factual statement. I'm glad I was involved for the brief period as it was a good 'education'.

    Just two trucks taking up spaces.....until replacement drivers are found to come fetch the abandoned slow-poke rigs.

    I wonder if that works - I get a call from one of their recruiters every week. Even though I don't qualify under their 'standards'.

    i had a company called brisk transport calling me the same way and i tryed to be nice the frist 4 or 5 times they called but i finaly had to call the recruting number (they kept leaving me voice mails on my cell)and i told them that if i recived another call i was going to contact a lawyer about possible harrasment charges and they stoped

    They may stop if you freak them out enough. Be creative. There are some REAL good ways to do that.

    I like your suggestion Mack - if they call again I will either try to scare them or ask as many questions as I can to waste that recruiter's time.
