Certified beer snob here. Some take aways from the pic....

"1516" is a reference to the German Purity Act of 1516. Half the labeling is in French.....

Likely a Bavarian style craft beer brewed in Canada.....

They still do traditional post and beam construction, mortise and tenon joints, cut outs for other pieces to set in, etc. held together with oak dowel pins. The tension rods are a few-and-far-between item. This structure is about 100' x 160'. Think 3 story barn (60' x 160') with a shorter (20' x 160') lean to on each side.

The plates on the pallets get epoxy anchored to the concrete floor, the ones with short pipe are for outside supports under the porch. The bottom of the post has a pocket in it that slides down over the tab welded to the plate. They drill through the bottom of the post and the steel tab and then drive the 1" steel pins in those holes. This gives uplift protection.

All of the wood pieces are prefit and drilled in the shop for the oak dowels. This structure has been assembled once, in small units at the shop before it is sanded, oiled and sent out for the final raising.

They use SIP screws for the roof and wall panels.

I'm going to try to get over to watch the raising, since it's only about 60 miles away.

timber2.jpg timber.jpg This is the type of joinery they do.

I'm going to take a lot of pics. I've known the owner over 20 years and watched them mock everything up in the shop, but never seen the final raising. They're looking at 4-5 weeks to build this one.

On a side note, if anybody gets up to Enid, the 81 Ranch on the north side of town built a small convention center. These guys did the frame on it. The current frame they're building has twice the lumber in it.

I did some timber framing when I was younger. It's an art. It's also a lot of hard work. But it's rewarding to see the finished product.

I was just a labourer. We did a lot of the same style you are, engineered with steel fasteners to pull it together. Douglas fir too.

    But I agree with you.
