The MB hub reduction has proven itself but from what I heard (not sure) the Sisu can be engaged on the fly meaning you can do it with out stopping. If true that is a huge plus in tough conditions.
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

You mean engaging diff lock while driving?
You can do that in mb and i guess on any truck, with more gently without much throttle , straight and on low speeds
Scania have nice detail there, they use abs sensors to measure wheel speed and it put diff lock on pending status when you engage it, and as soon as it recognize speeds are equall it will lock itking Q Thanks this. -
Scania has 3.81 or 4.21 , now they will have 3.65 for lighter application...
Higher number means less strain on halfshafts and center diff -
Anyway i have been on mb special trucks proving ground oetigheim, and i was driving zetros 6x6 with cross country tires 395/85r20 on low pressure 3bar, truck was equipped with allison automatic gearbox , i was going to stop to lock rear diffs before steep mud incline, after i stop and lock axles, instructor told me i can do that while
moving than , than we were going in other part of field and he told me approximate requierements to lock them...KANSAS TRANSIT and daf105paccar Thank this. -
98989 Thanks this.

i think hardly possible, maybe if both wheels spin but at different speeds, but even than....

i would say it is possible to do it on ice, but whenever you have big amount of drag ( rolling ressistance) strain would be way too big.
reason why i noted few posts ago about tire size and pressure is to note that this tire would get better traction than normal twin mounted 9bar road thread, so in my eyes in this case diff get more strain to lock it , but it is still with very small difference in other words before more serious spinning happens
btw allison is really rough when shifting, it really jerks comparing to automated transmissions, sometimes shifts strange , holds one gear too long ( on road) or shift too early , but in all cases shifts with jerks.
strange city busses have really soft gearshifts, i guess that voith makes better gearbox controls (also voith wins comparing to zf) -
Newbie here so not sure if this has been asked before, I use to drive in UK for many years and always had a Scania, loved them as probably all of the Irish drivers did.
Live on the east coast, just outside Wash DC and i am looking to buy my own truck and would like to import one, probably a R420 4x2 Topline. Are they legal to put on the road immediately here or what needs to be done to satisfy the authorities
Thanks in advance
Bernie
