Does that apply to regional also? I pushed my orientation to Wednesday,I know I shouldn't be stressing it,but my anxieties are in full swing,,lol coming from my last career it's a huge change, change for the better but nonetheless a change

Regional guys can be home every weekend if they want. Or they can stay out like they were OTR and take hometime like the rest of us schlubs. I don't run regional, so I dunno the details. But my NE trainer said he was home every weekend like clockwork.

@LuckyShot. I run NE regional and have missed probably 4 or 5 weekends in the last 14 months. I dont mind staying out here or there so normally just roll with the flow.

I live in Richmond and my normal week consists of leaving out sunday morning or night, running a load, reloading and coming back to the richmond area, sometimes delivering, sometimes dropping, wash rinse repeat all week long usually getting home friday evening or saturday morning. Usually home one night during the week. I usually end up with 10 to 12 trips on a 2 week pay period. Most weekends 34 to 40 hours. Sometimes more. Sometimes less.

If you run ne regional you WILL be going to nyc. I avg one trip a week there a week and once had a 2 week stint where thats the only place i went. Some weeks i dont go at all. All 5 boroughs are in play with a 53 footer. Sometimes a 48 ft liftgate, but dont count on it.

Pay is .36 cpm to start company wide with .10 cpm bonus on miles maryland north and pennsylvania east. Nyc is 50 bucks each visit.

Back in april i looked at my numbers and was averaging 4500ish miles per 2 weeks and the nyc and ne bonuses counted for about 850 paid miles. Ive had some weeks running 1800 miles and soms weeks running 3000 all in the ne.

You wont make more money running northeast than you can otr. It works great though if you live in rva or the northeast, like a challenge, and want to be home. Doesnt hurt to be a lil crazy either!

One thing about running ne and getting miles, ya gotta be willing to run 24.7, not be tied to only sleeping at truck stops, and be willing to be a lil creative to get the job done.

Any more questions just ask away

OTR trucking was a huge change for me and luckily one that I adapted to well. This is the highest paying job I've ever had and the least I've had to physically work to earn it. There are aspects of OTR that I don't like and some that I hate, but on balance, considering the financial rewards and how much that has made a difference to my situation in the past 17 months I can only recommend giving it a shot.

Ever had one of those loads that just drag?. 5 days to drive 2100 miles, this is the laziest I have felt in a long time.

We all have days like that. I know I'm having one when it takes 2 hours to get 4 stops off.

Saw on the website reefer trailers. Does Abilene move a lot of reefer and can you run reefer only. Love this thread, so much experiences from you regulars. Hope to be there next spring! Thanks for your response and stay safe..

We move a fair amount of reefer, but not enough to have a reefer-only fleet. If you drive for Abilene, you'll get a mix of reefer and dry van.

I tend to run more dry van than reefer, but I'm sure there are other drivers who have it the other way around.
