I am sick so I am staying in my sleeper for 12+ hours stretch. I am on e-logs. And sorry if it's disgusting but very convenient, I pee in a bottle and empty it out in the toilets when I go out.

So just wondering if a DOT officer was inspecting me, would they fine me for just having too many hours in sleeper berth?

    Chinatown Thanks this.

they could care less if you spent TOO MUCH time in the sleeper, but they'd nail you for TOO LITTLE.

however, your employer may get into your butt if you are not up and running ASAP when your sleeper period is up.

They know I'm sick so I am just here inside my parked truck until I get well enough to drive safely.

I heard a story where a DOT officer gave a driver a hard time because he was in the sleeper too long. "Didn't you get up and get out to do stuff?" asked the DOT officer. I'm not too sure what happened after but I'm guessing It was bad.

At least if they do ever question it, I have a legit reason.

oh, my bad, i thought you meant "sick" as "sick and tired of all the BS of waiting for a load and i wanna, go-go-go"..!!!

i been there too, it sucks being sick on the road, as it sucks just as much as being, "sick and tired", lol

I used to do 34s in my sleeper at a truck stop when I got too tired after 6 hard weeks. DOT never hasseled me at all about it.

If you want you could transfer over to off-duty whenever you get out of the truck and then back to sleeper. Overall though it would take a really Anal DOT officer to even say anything about it much less try to do anything. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm hearing through the grapevine that there are some CMV cops somewhere who are effectively "entrapping" drivers by asking them what they did during a given logged sleeper berth. And if they said they went outside of the truck for whatever reason, they were cited for log falsification. Also if they were seen sitting in the seat and were logged off duty or sleeper they were cited for log falsification because they were really "driving".

I don't know. Our fleet just received a cryptic message about this having happened several times in the past few weeks. So I'm going to ask some questions because there is going to a real problem if this is the case. I would fight to the death over such a BS citation.

Normally they will challenge taking whole weekends or "34 hour" weekends in the sleeper.. But then its just trying to present a log that makes sense.. spending a whole weekend in a truck sleeper is just not believable
