....we punch in on the clock and do whatever needs to be done
...Since the ELD system is based off hrs of service all company drivers WILL be paid an hrly rate .
WE ARE DOING AWAY WITH PAID BY THE MILE! !!!!
This ELD system is actually way better for ALL DRIVERS but , let's face it ; not so good for the TRUCKING companies, because they NOW have to pay for everything their drivers do for them
....time at spent at shipping/ receiving
....traffic delays
....down time ( waiting for dispatch. or repairs)
....adverse weather
....no more heated schedules
....no more cutting corners on bad equipment
And. We can say "it's about time" as many of you already know the truckiing industry been way out of control and getting worse & worse day by day.
ALL DRIVERS should embrace this change in SWITCHING from PAID PENNIES BY THE MILE to DOLLARS BY THE HOUR
....if there is any DRIVER out there who can't see the benefits of this change please specify your reasoning.
Some Canadian trucking companies are already switching their OTR driving forces to paid by the hrly rate because like i mentioned earlier the ELD system is based off H.O.S.

And, yes, there are averages for pay that you can discern for different types of local work. These averages are a side effect of the labor market, location and other factors. It's basic economics.
As to everybody going to hourly, I doubt that will happen. Automating HOS logging is not a magic thing. It will reduce gaming the system but I don't follow your logic that it will somehow universally transform compensation schemes. Some companies may very well decide to use it as a "clock" for hourly wages, but at the end of the day how does more accurate logging force a change to any particular system of pay? -
43 cpm = about what $28 an hr?
....last night you ran hard and used up all your HOS.
....today you find yourself waking up at truck stop somewhere in Oklahoma.
...you get your self together with a shower & breakfast head out to your equipment and punch- in for another day at the office.
....traffic delays are no longer an issue to you
.....slick roads will always be an issue to you but are paid for this unless it is not safe to driver
....keeping that appointment time is not such a hot topic any more
....you no longer paid for long procedures at shipping/ receiving
....you no longer pay being on standby waiting for your dispatcher to respond
....you no longer pay down time on equipment repairs
....you now live healthier then you have in all the yrs of driving a semi
....our highways are just alittle bit safer for all involved
Now do you get the picture? -
And YES , we are currently taking steps to modify compensation for all OTR. company drivers in the US.
....miles & procedure are no longer in the math -
-
Sure... this is gonna hit trucking companies in butt
But we don't feel sorry for them because they are guilty for having put so many innocent lives at stake over profits.
And drivers have been footing bill for them in many ways for way too long now. -
