so I am trying to make the jump to the owner op side of things and was thinking about purchasing an international. I was originally thinking on getting an ISX but was told that the rebranded N13 motor is a lot better than it was in the past. Was wondering what you alls take is on this? I kind of want to go ahead with it because my friend actually owns a mf13 and has had no problems out of it for the 8 months he's owned it so I figured the n13 should be even more reliable right?? The truck I'm looking at is a 2014 + eagle with the n13 and 400k miles. It's going to be diamond renewed as well.

Diamond renewed also add in SCR I believe if it hasn't got it already. There are a 3 versions of N13. I can't remember exactly when the changes are but the N13A and N13B look exactly like a MF13. The N13B have an extra little coolant manifold on the side of the EGR cooler at the front. But, the EGR cooler and EGR valve are still the same as MF13 and still have same failure rates - 100%. SCR's do use less EGR, so those components do have an extended life span. Problem is, you are buying into this truck right when everything starts to go bad. I hope the Diamond Renewed comes with new DOC and DPF or I wouldn't even consider it. I not 100% sure what all gets done during the renewed process. I think it is mostly just updating the exhaust/aftertreatment. So again, if the EGR cooler and EGR valve are still original, I would expect to be replacing them within the next year.
FYI, N13C look like the new A26 with the all new EGR cooler and EGR valve.Ssgtkevin, nate087 and QUALITYTRUCK Thank this. -
How much of a pain is it replacing those components?? Are those something that would be considered under warranty as I was planning on purchasing their engine, trans, diff warranty as well for the truck??

Well they said the renewal process cleans or replaces the dpf and doc and updates the egr cores to latest models and replaces egr valve. Also the one year warranty covers those parts and I came tend for 2 years

I would make absolutely sure the EGR cores are replaced, along with the valve. That is great if they do. The difference between cleaning and replacing the DOC and DPF is about $7000. If the DOC has more than 8000 hours on it, I would want it replaced. Most of them start to degrade at about that time and become useless around 10,000-11,000 hours and need replacement anyway.

Switched from Cascadia to Diamond Renewed Prostar with N13 and have had no issues. Warranty is great and I like much better than my FreightlinerLast edited: Oct 12, 2017

RUN! You are asking for trouble. I own a ProStar with the Cummins, CM-871. I fixed the motor, but have spent countless hours at my local International dealer. That is all they do, in frame those International motors and replace emission component$. There are always a few in there, there were three there this past weekend when I was getting parts, all being in framed.

Your truck will be considerably older with a different engine. You are comparing apples to oranges.

I spoke with more than a few of the mechanics...

Well I am going the way of a diamond renewed international. My friend has had a problem free one as well and I will get a print out of what was replaced after they do the renewal. But all the major issues are suppose to be cleaned or replaced with the process. So right now I'm waiting for my fifth wheel to come in as my company requires certain ones and waiting for the diamond renewal to be finished
nate087 Thanks this.
