Does anyone have anything crazy to say about I64W through those states? We fairly new drivers and like to research the trip before we head out. Anything to watch out for? Or anything to say that should be known? Thank you in advance! Anything helps!!!

It's not a bad run till you hit West Virgina. If you are heavy the mountains will be tricky. Got stuck up there in the snow.

East of Beckly, i64 has some serious pulls. It's not really hot right now, but in the summer, in high heat, with a heavy load, watch your temps. Then its toll road to charleston. And hilly all the way to Louisville, ky. Nothing dangerous, just a good workout for a driver.

WV. Your brakes will get hot if you run too fast.Keep it under 50 mph downhill. Less than that if your 40k lbs I don't run over there anymore if its over 30k lbs.

I think its maybe like a $15 toll. Not over that. Yea I've seen a few roll overs that let the truck get away from them in WV. WV will test a truck driver. 20 miles into KY and everything becomes flat and straight. If you dont stop at the travel plaza on 77 then you might not find parking till KY.

So is that the best route then? There was another that showed up through PA but looked like more big cities? Likei said before we fairly new and try to stay away from traffic..is WV really that nuts??? We dont speed or anything like that

It is really the best route. WV can be bad. Just stay calm. Hit all your shifting points and you will be fine. Dont go through PA.

One other option is 77 thru VA to US 35 in WV to I 70 in OH, but it is probably longer and you will hit worse hills that way.

The only big grade will be Sandstone like mile marker 144-138. And once you get north of Beckley between mile marker 60-73 you will not have any cell phone service, regardless of who you have. Other than Charleston, Lexington, and Louisville its a long boring ride
