ive been leasing a truck for 4 months they say it's not a walk away because I'll lose all I have in it but the problem is I haven't made a paycheck to pay my bills all the money goes in to truck payment and diesel usually I'm negative each week. I tried to deadhead home from Indiana to tx but was told they would file theft charges on me if I didn't take back to terminal. I turned around started back and my wife got sick so she was rushed to hospital and had surgery. Once she got out we went to terminal and they gave me load to tx to drop her off. I couldn't fly her back or anything we haven't gotten any money to do anything if I quit while I'm home can I still be filed for theft I was authorized to come home
need advice, lease purchase is leaving me broke

Come on how can they charge you with theft. If the company is threatening that there full of it.If your not making money move on it’s your life.
buddyd157, Jazz1, Midnightrider909 and 1 other person Thank this. -
If your negative in this deal, get the load to Texas, get unloaded and call the company and ask them where they want the truck dropped off, cause you quit. You won't get paid for the load, but you will be home. Then go find you a local gig s a "company" driver and don't sign any "lease" deals ever again.

You won't be charged with theft, but you will be hit on your DAC report for truck abandonment.
Yes, tell them you quit and where do they want the truck turned in.SingingWolf Thanks this. -

What's the name of that lowlife outfit? Call the owner not some nitwit in the dispatch office.Lonesome Thanks this. -
So, you're not living the dream? Not enjoying the many wonderful benefits of being an independent lease operator? Not making "$225k year"? Say it ain't so.
I'm sorry. Not trying to make light of your situation but this thread may cause others to do a little more homework before signing on the dotted line.Wargames, Toomanybikes, buddyd157 and 6 others Thank this. -
First thing you do is Post the name of the company involved. That will make the advice you get more to the point.

Don't turn this into a Theft problem that will seriously hurt you in many ways.
In my time we left the truck wherever. In today's time in the entire industry, it's not acceptable at all and you should be prosecuted for doing that. Put the rig exactly where the company tells you to put it, turn in the keys and fuel card etc etc etc and go home. You are finished. It's the nicest way to wrap a stinky problem.
Running negative is a problem. That tells me you have no savings.
Previous poster told you not to get into any more lease deals. I echo that sentiment.
Keep your chin up, you are making a effort. Go home help your wife heal. It's the most important thing right now. -
