Hey guys quick question, my wife and I reside in Texas and have decided that we wanna drive for CFI. But they require you to have a CLP before going to there truck driving school. My question is what is required to get a CPL in Texas and how much does it cost? Been to the DMV website and it gives a bunch of info but I read what other have said I get mixed reviews..some say it only cost $11 for a clp and some say it cost like $80+ and normally wouldn't be a big issue but money is tight atm and we really wanna get this going! Thanks for any info!

Since you'll need the Commercial Drivers Handbook to study for the test you could ask while you're at your local DPS picking one up.

I got my CLP last month here in central TX. Had to get a DOT physical, which costed $85 at my doctor's office. Had to get my SS card replaced since it was stolen years ago. Then went and took the tests, Airbrakes, General Knowlege, Texas Commercial Vehicle Operation, and Combination Vehicles. I also took the tanker endorsement. I can't remember what that costed, but I think it was about $25.
Headed to Crowder college on Wednesday of this week to start school for CFI. Good luck to ya!Cerberus XVI Thanks this. -
