I got hit with my first service failure and I don't agree

    you go off duty, or sleeper berth, is my point, rather than stay on duty not driving. you mis-managed the driving time you could have had.

    i thought i made it as clear as a bell.

    Telling someone to log sleeper or off duty when he or she feels that he or she IS on DUTY standing at the dock office waiting on a assignment rubs certain folks wrong inside where it's right and wrong.

    Most drivers including myself learn how to log 15 minutes loading, preserving the rest of the time however many hours it took waiting for a dock ... off duty and sleeper. Regardless what we were doing.

    What I am afraid of is a future in which maybe by a implant with sufficient geolocating to determine if you did spent off duty off property away from your truck or you spent the sleeper berth actually in the truck rather than sitting in the break room upstairs drinking and smoking telling stories to pass the waiting....

    you see you and me did it that way, off duty or sleeper berth to save our driving time. these newbs think that they cannot. i have yet in all my years ever be questioned by any DOT officer where i was actually.

    so you know what it comes down to..?? newbs being sheeple.

    that'll be the day that i use up all my valuable driving time, in fact i do not to this day, on average each stop i make (5 per night) i have to offload and reload, my time at each stop? 15 minutes.

    been at that particular job for going on 6 years in Nov.

    Let us go forth and show the sheeple that it's ok to log 15 minutes as long that durn truck stays put. Better yet not touching that computer to log anything until actually loaded and rolling.

    I have had I think 7 log inspections between mid 80's all the way to 2009 in my entire trucking encounters with DOT. The first two created a story about how bad the logs were and generally when the DOT man finished his smoke break and if I am still here... he will start writing tick...

    BYE!!! Gone. Trainer teaches me more logs for a few weeks.

    That DOT man did us all a favor. But... for me? Discovering 2 logs then three logs? All at the same time?

    Well now, that's a terrible thing to do... no wonder we have these new computer logs coming into the truck to make sure we are doing what we are supposed to be doing.

    Never mind the sheeple coming into the industry having been whipped clear of any kind of moxie, gumption or can do spirit and independance. I hate to say it, but without a computer anything they would be lost in life.

    Come on... let's not be that bad off shall we?

    i wish i had the actual statistics of the newbs that actually know how to buy an atlas, and read one, over the GPS they gotta have right now.

    there were no GPS, no cells phones in my day. we had to call the shipper or receiver for directions. sometimes we'd call out on the cb for directions, or talk to drivers at the truck stops.

    i think if i recall, any truck with an elog, does not set it off, if driven under a certain speed limit?

    clearly enough to get around a yard on "off duty"

    but, hey, he got a service failure, i know i wouldn't have. but that is me, old, and old fashion, and have the know how to get the job done, and get the better mileage runs as well.

    I was off duty. Being there for 4 hours made me run on my 14, not my 11.

    Ok you are referring to be actually awake and walking around instead of resting in the berth?

    Yes you were on your 14 hour clock (On duty...) but what I am trying to nudge you into doing is simply marking all of that time into a single 15 minute loaded entry into your log. And done.

    You would have saved oh.. I don't know 5 hours at least so you can possibly get 200 miles down the road instead of 50 or whatever eh?

    Yea. That's what i usually do. But that still didn't stop my 14 from running out at 11pm

    I'll leave this here for today and think on everything before I sprout off and make things worse...
