Hey Rebelgrad......glad to hear everything is going well, ill be applying at TMC come this spring and i have one question and since you have been through the orientation recently, are there any thing other than the NORMAL Dot Physical that they run you through, or is is just the standard DOT stuff------bend you everyway, check heart rates, and so forth?
thanks for you time and keep that chrome shining

Hey Pete,
It was just pretty much the standard DOT with a few added extras in Columbia S.C. ( I just finished orientation last week)
A few nurses run the whole class thru the first day (Monday morning)
Blood pressure & Heart rate, jog in place 2 minutes then heart rate again.
Vision tests (one eye chart and a few "pick the number from the dots" book pages)
Then a little whisper from the nurse for a hearing test
Drug screen (urine test)
Physical exam for hernia (yup drop em to the floor and cough)
Easy on the coffee and breakfast, they will send you home if you have a higher than average blood pressure.
Good Luck in the spring.
Also good luck with you trainer Rebel... -
pete,
joe pretty much summed it up, I finish up training tomorrow. We had one guy go home for blood pressure, but he is back this week and made it through the DOT so definately easy on the sugar the night before

TO all,
sorry i haven't posted the day by day in the last couple of days. We left off with sunday. So monday we started driving, they will split you up into groups to drive out into town. 1st=morning, 2nd=afternoon, and the 3rd group goes nights. Your group will vary everyday. They hand you a score card on monday that you HAVE TO KEEP WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES! This is how they group you to drive. If your not driving, you'll be backing. Monday and tuesday is 45 degree and figure 8(forward).Monday is country driving, tuesday is a little city driving. Wednesday is downtown Des Moines driving, loads of fun is you've never driven a 48 ft vehicle in the middle of rush hour. By the way don't freak out if you get a guy named Mark(he'll be the one wearing overalls and dark glasses, he likes to scream his butt off to get you nervous). Today we got assigned our OTR trainers and was introduced to the 90 degree and spiral backs. Then its off to drive the highway. Also try and make sure you get something to put your logs in. They tend to get ripped and stepped on. Tomorrow we get our final grades and our rental cars to get the F home. THANK GOD..
P.S The last two weeks of fun filled activities TMC puts you through is just a big test to see if you have what it takes to perform under a little bit of pressure. TMC is a great company to work and I hope they will always have a place for me.

Rebelgrad congrats glad to hear everything there went so well. I'm looking at possibly going the first couple weeks of December and I'll be coming from Chicagoland, can I just drive my car to the school or do they want the students to have that trapped feeling?
-
cplmac,
you can three things: One is to drive your own car and they will give a big fat hundred bucks on the first check. Two is to ride the god awefull greyhound. And three is to tell tmc "you only have one car for the family and you can't drive to the greyhound terminal, but there is a rental car business right down the street from me." That what one of the guys did in my class and he said they no problem doing that for him.
And now to post the last day of training at good 'ol' tmc. Yesterday(friday) we went into class about 7 am and did our final paper work. They will be giving rental cars to all that need them. BUT they will group you into states. That means if you have three guys going the same direction they will put all three guys in the same group and rent the car to the last person to get home. Then they will give that person a ride to the airport to pick the car up and he will return to the training site to pick up the other two guys. that will happen about 3pm.
GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE GOING TO TMC, I'VE SAID IT BEFORE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN TMC HAS THE BEST TRAINING AROUND JUST PAY ATTENTION AND GIVE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE TO LEARN WHAT THEY ASK OF YOU.

Hey Rebel, Glad to hear things went well in your orientation!
Do you have any idea when you will be going out with a trainer? Did anyone go straight out of orientation? I was looking at the graduating class and have bets on who you are, point your self out!
Well, take care and be safe! Looking forward to hearing back from you!
