Well excuse me if I chime in here. This post is no help either. All you did was rant. At least I said the truck will still run and carry the driver wherever they need to go to get their break. If you're waiting on certain shippers and receivers to provide extended parking for carriers, even where security is a thing .... well, good luck with that.

I went over my hours several times on elogs. All I had to do was send a message over the qualcom explaining what happened. With one company it was a freeform, but the other company had a specific macro for log violations. I'd just say I ran out of hours at the shipper / reciever and I needed to continue driving to find a safe place to park. Worst thing that ever happened was a safety guy messaged me back saying I might get a warning if I got inspected. Well OK that was the second worst thing. The absolute WORST thing was that weird yelp the qualcom makes.

There is a provision called driving off duty or personal conveyance using line 4 off duty. It is only allowed when not loaded, under dispatch or in route for an assignment. It's optional to you either on paper or elogs and mostly used to get you and your truck home when logged as off duty. But being on the road, home may be a truck stop for the rest period you plan on taking.

It's very easy to do in LA. I never go into that place unless I'm starting my day there with a full set of hours.
I've only run out of time at a customer , that I was forced to leave, twice in my career. Both times I went to the nearest truck stop and I noted it in my logs. Never heard a word. Stuff happens. As long as you aren't doing it every day or several times a months, most people understand.NavigatorWife, slow.rider and 1278PA Thank this. -

I ran out of time after a breakdown on Arkansas SR-67. Roadside came out & got me fixed. Called my FM to ask about my options - he was careful not to even 'suggest' I drive it. Said I could get a tow 50 miles to the nearest truck stop. Told him I'd call him in an hour after I got myself there.
More than once I was kicked out of a shipper / receiver after running out of time. ALWAYS send a message to dispatch: Got the boot. Going to find the nearest secure location to shut down.
