Releasing the clutch does not "take the load off the gears", it disconnects the engine from the transmission; if you are using it to "take the load off the gears" then you are shifting entirely wrong with or without clutch use.
The "load" is removed from the drive train by matching engine speed to road speed for the gear that is chosen, that is done with the throttle not the clutch; if you are using the clutch to "release the load from gears" you are destroying your clutch.
Any tips for learning to shift without clutch

That's backward thinking. What;s hard on the clutch is tromping on it in high gear especially if you have 'tuned' the truck. -

If it goes Zzzzzzzzzzzzz, grrrrrrrrrrrr, clunk as you hold the shifter, forcing the clutch dog against the gear, waiting for the mainshaft to slow down, that rounds the teeth on the clutch dog and eventually causes it not to stay in gear.
If it goes in effortlessly because you just listen to the sound of the motor and you know exactly when it’s at the right speed... no damage occurred. -
Releasing the clutch to shift does no harm to the clutch and your driveline will thank you; -
Keep in mind, though, that if you are using the clutch to switch gear, you can end up with a serious speed mismatch between engine and transmission and that would shake your truck big time when you let go of the clutch (with the obvious consequences for driveline).
Without using clutch, it is not possible to get into gear with a serious speed mismatch.
I am not convinced that double clutching is all that protective of the driveline.
Myself, after a year of double clutching, I am learning now to drive without a clutch, and concentrate on effortlessly getting into gear. Generally I have some progress. The worst now is TrrrCLUNK, it used to be zzzzzzrrrrrrrrzzrrrrrrCLUNKQuietStorm Thanks this. -
20 years of city driving, heavy traffic, lots of shifting.
Clutches are for getting moving, forward or reverse. Not for changing gears. Once in a blue in a panic situation i may use it becuse i have to stop or slow to quickly to downshift, but only to break out of gear, then i float back into proper gear for speed and continue on. -
You don't USE the clutch to change gears and the purpose of double clutching is to match the trans and engine and control the shock load.

And at some point in time you will be wondering why it jumps out of gear sometimes.
