#1 I fought the move to ELD's as hard as anybody

#2 once I figured out to work the system, I realized how to run just as many miles as on paper (doing paper legally and honestly) and granted I run cross country which makes it easier

#3 I have a suspicion an ELD mandate will be followed with some sensible HOS rules changes

#4 if a forced ELD is truly going to make you see a 30% reduction in revenue, you're doing it wrong AND/or you need to rework your business and rating model.

#5 For many, ELDs will force them to either quit or get smarter about how they operate their business and bill for their services. And it's a shame it takes ELDs for some to realize how much work they were effectively giving away for free [in the current HOS reality world]

I do do a bit of that.

I agree with everything you stated right up until #4... I run local, I have a sleeper, 1400 miles is a long week. When we are busy, I rarely see over 1000 miles a week. I cannot remember when the last time I went over 70 hours, even on paper. A normal week is 50 hours, average length of haul is around 60 miles. We bail out these big outfits, we do the impossible. We are the General Motors Carrier of the year in Expedite, there are 8 of us, all OO. We pull the rabbit out of the hat and are very well compensated for the work we do. Adjust the HOS and I will be fine, the 14 hour rule is what kills us as a company. Hence, the 30% hit. There is more to trucking than you realize, it is not a one size fits all industry.

Oh, those miles, those are my IFTA miles, including my BS'ing around town and general screwing around. Just saying, and I do do a bit of that. ;-)

locking up your brakes, wrong thing to do. Playing games on the road, wrong thing to do. You`ll learn.

    I wouldn't count on that.

The ones who pushed for that were paid to. "Sensible rules changes" wasn't part of the plan.

It's called defensive driving. Clearly the guy was aggressive so I did what I had to do to get the #### away from him. He's lucky I got out from in front of him before I locked them up. Dude was just being an aggro dick.

So why not just slow down, little by little, until he goes around you. At some point he will want to go faster than 50, or 45.

Your whole attitude is more aggressive than defensive.

He was maybe a foot from my California bumper. I was genuinely concerned he'd be dead if I so much as took my foot off the accelerator. So I signaled that I was getting over, got over and backed off a bit. He matched my speed, so I hit the brakes. Dude had a death wish.

We all know what hard braking does and how tires smoke up the issue is if your going down a very steep hill and they smoke up to much to the point where they don't work at all your in deep ###T hense the reason why all professional experienced drivers chose a gear that is safe for a decline.
