This escapes him! He sees the "superiority" of Euro technology and refuses to grasp that it is completely unnecessary here. Keep It Simple, Stupid always is in play. That trailer steer technology is another thing that can break. Ok, if your cities are 500 plus years old, that's technology you need. When only 3 or 4 of your cities are 300 years old, and they were built much bigger from the get go, it is a useless piece of junk that will break!
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

All deadend streets and you are not allowed to run over any curbs as you will pay for them.
I do agree that for a lot off work it has little to no benefit. -
spyder7723 Thanks this.

The straight truck needs to return to base twice as much.
So then the real question is : what is most economical? The extra investment or the cheap solution?
Both have merits,both have issues.
It think that is the best way to put it. -
Here almodt no semitrailers use selfsteering axles. And none semitrailers use forced sttering except oversize lowloaders.... dont inderstand reason some claims that this reauire more repairs than savings.
Some people claim rhat for rigid trucks too, ok hydraulics is more complicated than selfsteerimg. I can see high end trucks, even for distribution with fixed tag.... in italy they use first axlw as selfsteering on short constructiom tipper trailer.
Here for building material they always use rigid truck plus 2axle drawbar trailer with turntable, we got very skilled drivers for that -

Further, there are certain physical attributes that will always be true. A longer wheelbase vehicle will ride smoother than a short wheelbase vehicle. Now you can have certain technology used on a short wheelbase that will smooth the ride, but if you combine that technology with a longer wheelbase, it will be smoother.
As length restrictions were relaxed in the eastern part of the US, cabovers have disappeared. No matter what could be done to make the ride smoother, doing the same thing to a conventional, the ride would be smoother still.
Nobody is suggesting that Europe should be running 260" axle set forward 3 axle trucks. We get that wouldn't work there. It works here though. There is little or no need for a 150" over the road tractors here. If there was, we would be using them here.
Why can you not accept that?sdaniel, spyder7723, Tb0n3 and 1 other person Thank this. -
