What is an Outlaw in today's trucking? What justrucking2 stated was a normal human routine in my eyes. I mean I have heard tale of 2/3 log books and what not. Had a guy 6 years ago tell me he put himself in the "sleeper berth" and has been driving all night. I asked him why and he just wanted to position himself for a better load in the AM. That is just ridiculous in my opinion, sheesh.

I guess my point is that when you drive your car, you just drive it when you want, and go where you want. You can even change your mind while in route and go somewhere else. I understand commercial trucks are for hauling commercial goods, so they should be treated as such. But why do us truck drivers have to be treated like we can't be responsible? I know, I know,,,because billy bob can't be responsible.

No argument there, and that is the issue, HOS, not the eLog. But, I do not like the idea of being tracked either. I was talking to a Swift driver at a truck stop I was at, he pulled in and was looking for food. Well, the truck stop we were at just recently shut down the restaurant. There was nothing there but crap in the cooler. I told him there was a restaurant up the road that he could drive to... He stated he could not, as his clock had already put him off duty. The guy ate crap out of the cooler. That is the stuff that burns my tail end. When I am off duty, I am off duty. If I want to be bop up to a restaurant or go shopping, what the hell business is that of anyone? Am I off duty or not? Does not sound like it to me. I can see myself getting in to quite a bit of trouble in the very near future. ;-)

Gunner the biggest issue is to literally have the person actuality hold the device in their hand and start looking at it!
I know that sounds funny, but there is this feeling that if you touch it your private parts are going to fall off, we have been though it several times since we were an early adapter AND had older drivers.
Now on top of that as the deadline draws closer you have a LOT of disinformation being thrown around by people that are amendment that this will be the end of civilization as we know it.

Although I can and do sympathize with that driver on running out of hours, nobody is chaining him to that truck, he ALWAYS has the option of calling Uber to run him to a restaurant or elsewhere.

Practicality here........Sure he can call an Uber- Let's be real- Stuff adds up $$$...whats an uber/taxi $35-50 bucks?? When he could just Bob over there for nickles and pence......

just like a monthly Fee for this ELD device ..(Which to me If I ever did it,Would break in 6 months).

Everyone thinks drivers have stacks of money- when they barely pay their Bills.

I actually can't wait to see how this destroys many of our operations come Dec 18th.......again, Its Not operatring illegaly, its All the Small Intangibles posted that will kill us running an ELD.

I DO understand what you are saying, and pulling into your PLANNED truck stop for the night only to find out the cafe is closed does suck, but it's not something that happens everyday.

A LOT of this can be avoided by not running at 10/10ths all the time, give yourself some slack for things like this, I have been using ELD's for 4 years now, VERY (and I can't stress that enough) VERY seldom that I can't get somewhere decent.

If you are running for a company that literally has you parked everyday with no time on the clock,,,,,find another company.

Also, don't forget, you can still "Bobtail" over there on ELD's if you go to PC, the tools are there, but people need to do more to understand and use them..................

A smart man once said it is easy to change/make a law.
Hard part is to change attitudes.

I totally understand that some drivers aren't as tech savvy as others, and yes many off the systems out here are not very user friendly, however most of the instructions are one or two pages, many have pictures, and there are literally hundreds off you tube how-to videosthat you can watch. The basic premise for paper is you need to be able to read, write, and do math. The elog removes the math issue out of the equation, shop your left with reading and writing. If you can't read, might I suggest a remedial reading class? If these drivers are able to operate a smart phone or laptop to post online on Facebook or on an internet forum, then there is no reason they can't learn to operate an elog
