Depends on what year really... I have an old Big Cam 3 cummins but am a fan of the Series 60 Detroit as well. Would not buy an Engine or a truck newer than 04, than of course mine is a 1984...lol

There is no "better", each of them have their issues and problems, and each of them have failed people when they were needed to be dependable.

If were talking about the sound they make its isx hands down. DD sounds bland. They both equally suck but seat time in both and the dd was in the shop less.

Detuned fleet cascadia dd15. The isx 12 at my current job are spec'd properly shames all those megas and with the big 15L but then again were at 1900 rpm at 65 not 1250

In our fleet, some have Cummins, some have Detroit’s.
Every single one of the Cummins has had an in frame by 300,000 miles.
Zero Detroits have, just the odd DEF pump issue.
And every Volvo has to replace injectors every 18 months.

    PE_T Thanks this.

Cummins love one rpm. Detriots like going uphill.

Ungoverned trucks are even more useful. You dont need all 6 cylinders when one of them will do the job. /snark.

Governed and casterated trucks don't have enough output to matter what engine is under the hood. All they do is whine, get asthma from excessive emissions crap and cannot breathe worth a #### from the stuffed air in takes that demand regen as you merge onto the interstate leaving the truckstop after a overnight stay.

If I was driving someone else's headache I'd like to drive the cummins powered truck.
If I'm buying a truck, the DD is going to be in the shop less, parts are cheaper, and you can get repairs done nearly anywhere.
