My guess is they would make you retrofit that electric monstrosity to your truck , so when you get to Toronto , you go on the electric grid , or dump your load so a coal fired local truck can deliver your load .

    Brilliant

No, the truck will be a hybrid, with an electric motor and a diesel engine.

and I'm sure this idea like all other half baked save the environment ideas , will only work if you force everyone to comply .
Pass the buck to truckers , make them foot the bill for our Captain Planet ideas

Well, the electricity will be very cheap, so you will save diesel fuel. Electric distribution trucks are on the market now, an electric tractor is going to be unveiled by Tesla shortly. All new public transport buses in the Netherlands will be electric from 2025 onwards. For the ZF Traxon gearbox you can get a hybrid module to bold on.

That's pie in the sky crapola , I have a good friend that has been working in the energy production field for decades , coal , gas and now solar , he's working on a huge solar project now , and when all costs are taken into account it will cost 26 cents per kWh , coal traditionally costs 4 cents per kWh .
Also what the heck do you do at night or on rainy days?
You need back up power plants to fill the gap , costing huge money , then what shut them off when the sun shines .
I've been hearing these facts spun for many years , there always seems to be a way to slant facts wether it's about how the latest truck anti pollution tech that's going to be great , and turns into a disaster.
Or we're all going to have free electricity from wind and solar

Having standby power plants is normal. I once saw a nice TV program about the UK national grid. It is controlled from one control room. The guy in charge was watching TV, a soap, "Eastenders" As soon as it ended, he put all kind of standby power plants on line. The reason: all British housewives went to the kitchen at that moment, and plugged electric water cookers in for their tea.

A way to store energy is using hydro electric energy. When you have a surplus of energy, you pump the water to a storage reservoir, when you need energy, you drain the reservoir and produce electricity.

The CEO of Tesla is building an enormous battery in Australia to store electric energy. In daytime it will be charged by solar panels, during the night it will feed the grid. That whole area will just be using solar energy. Islands in the pacific already have similar schemes.

The US had more than enough room to build huge solar panel fields and wind energy farms. The price of these technologies is dropping with an enormous rate.

I didn't agree with obama on policy issues but at least he was honest , quote " under my cap and trade system , electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket "
Now when it comes to trucks only a fool would want trucks to pollute like they did 30 years ago.
I remember driving into LA back then and when the wind was blowing out of the west , it would burn your eyes and you could taste the sulfur in the air.
No one in there right mind wants that .
The question is why we can't do this right, so it's effective to control pollution and works with out constantly breaking down.
I'm all for improvement and new tech that works but we need to evaluate these ideas on how they work in the real world .
Not just force compliance to half baked ideas that are crap

That's odd, the prediction is that electricity will become extremely cheap. Like what happened today in Germany, where the electricity was free. In summertime the Germans also produce enormous amounts of solar energy.

    Very true!

Are you referring to emission control systems? In Europe the tendency is to close cities for old polluting trucks and cars, if you enter such a city with an 'illegal' vehicle, you will get a hefty fine.
