Well said, man. Gave me chills; totally correct. I'm not a deck guy but if/when... only covers will be the ones 'i' personally secure. Thanks, D.

LMFAO... that's exactly my thought on the rare occasion I go down there.

I don't get how your load shifted? Maybe I missed it? Not enough securement put on it? I'm a little over 4 months into my flatbedding journey and so far I haven't had any issues... knock on wood...

Is that truck wide open so you can get on it when needed? Where are they letting you fuel?

The part in all that that really spooked me was the idea that having a passing truck inspect your load would suffice for a proper load check. Asking a passing truck if you had a strap singing is one thing, but you have to stop and put your hands on the strap and load to really know what's going on.

truck is truck is wide open I'll take a picture of it when I stopped here in a little while. They want me to fuel at Pilot and Flying J they claim they get 15 to 20 cents off a gallon at those locations. The part of the load that shifted on me was the steel bars they are round tubes and they are bundled together the tubes are covered in a oil which I guess helps prevent rust if they were to get wet during transport but it makes them incredibly slippery and they just slid right off of the four by four that I had them straps too and I mean I had three straps on them they were belly wrapped then two additional straps over the tarps. but they're just so oily and slippery they still manage to slide on me so I went the extra step and I nailed some blocks of wood on each side of the bundles so there is absolutely no way they can shift again

LOL I wasn't LOL I wasn't being serious, I will ask if it looks like a strap is loose or flopping around or if maybe the end of my tarp is come untucked or something like that but I don't use that as my soul load check I swear LOL

That's not bad fueling at Pilots/J at least they are all over the place... Crowded but it is what it is... I'm sure they do get a discount so can't blame them. Ya I'd like to see them pics when you get a chance I haven't hauled that stuff yet...

You did it right this time. Cribbing is essential when dealing with loads that don't "lock" together under pressure. I've carried loads of pipe that I swear was coated in Vaseline. If the material wasn't cribbed, I built it on the spot. Flatbedding requires a diverse skill set, figuring stuff out on the fly is high up on that list. So many things come up, if it was all written down, you'd need a separate truck and trailer to cart it along with you. However, if you really understand the principles of securement, you can figure out anything. Go slow, take your time and think. Five minutes spent with your arms crossed and your brain engaged will save you a ton of time, aggrivation and inspections.

This is SO not my venue, but leme try... 3,700 x 40% equals 1,480
    1,650 x 40% equals 660

The two equal 2,140 and minus the 600 and 250 is $1,290

Really not bad... mileage would be: from your numbers unless I'm missing something, at 1,680 miles times 0.80 cpm... would put you at $1,344

Pretty darn close; I may have messed up but yeah; you sure are in the ballpark!
