Hello I just found this youtube video about a documentary on being a OTR truck driver.Just want to know if this is how truck driving is or that this is a bad driver. There are so many problems in the video with the way the driver does things. One of them is that he was driving with no trailer brakes at all and he shows that he cheats on his paper logs all the time. I just don't understand why would someone do this.
Longhaul is this typical or a bad driver?

It's typical in that a majority of drivers have zero understanding of how the brake system works or how to adjust them. Cheating on logs is a common practice because some bureaucrats make laws for you to follow with no experience in the field. They rely on some bogus expert study. Would you take a 34 hour restart an hour from your house if you were out of hours? Or would you go home?

I am not going to sit through the whole video, but yeah I think Mr. Cowboy hat is an idiot. That part where he whines about getting cut off, then makes no effort to slow or back off of the offending car. And ######, If I was doing a documentary I would at least put on a clean shirt.

"And it has about, uhhh, nine gears." What!!!??? Lol, ok I need to watch to whole video now. -
I'm on paper now for a local home daily tanker company. We have 12 hours drive time, 15 on duty and 8/24 resets with 70 in 7. If we still have 5 hours come Saturday, we have to come in to work. For me with my OTR mile chasing mentality, that's fine for me. But I have watched guys park and log on duty for 3-4 hours just so they don't have to work on Saturday. A lot of them don't know how to keep their door shut and haul ###. Shame. Ungoverned tractors and silos that are always low. No shortage of opportunity to make money.shogun Thanks this. -
If you would have to rate him on a 1-10 what would you guys give him? Later on the cops pull him over for speeding many times. He also drives by a scales and a cop stops him.

What did I just see?

I am not going to sit there through almost two hours of drivel.
There was a time I used two or three logs or even completely off books. Those days are gone forever and ever. I swung the other way to being strictly on the HOS (Hours of Service) and got really good at saying no to a dispatcher. Lucky for me the dispatcher has gotten really good at taking my no at face value and working with me. I only wish the other 50 or so ######## in the dispatch offices over 30 years of my time did the same. But no. Kettle calling pot black.
As far as the other stuff pointed out as cursing cars and whatever else, I'll remain professional and take the position that driver needs to get some churching up and do better. He has to. Otherwise something bad will happen and there he is possibly in prison for something. He would have brought it upon himself.
Trucker videos are not something I watch too often, there are a few people here on TTR whose videos I follow regularly, Gunner 75, Lepton1, Scottie67 and a few others I forget off hand. These are some of my favorites because they do well. (I know some of you will toss bad fruit from the cheap seats and disagree... but it is what it is...)
Once in a while I'll take the time to follow a truly bad driver on his or her video. Just to remind msyelf just how silly it is to be that bad in today's industry that demands professionalism. If you cannot be a good boy then there isnt much I can do for you.Need4Speed Thanks this. -
Well this is your typical driver on YouTube from the description mentioned. I can’t bring myself to watch the video
