Why do so many companies not allow you to bank hometime?

    If anything, it seems like routing somebody home every few weeks would be more of a pain for the company than having to find you a route home less frequently but allowing you to take more time off at a time. A driver who takes longer but less frequent hometime can be dispatched more flexibly and the truck sits for an equal amount of time either way.

    I'm planning to become "homeless" when I leave for trucking in a few months and was hoping to frequently work 8-10 weeks at a time without a break, but then take a whole week off to travel instead of actually going home. I've come to realize that that won't be possible with most starter companies. I'm going to do my time an deal with whatever I have to deal with for my first year, but the policy could end up being a dealbreaker once I have experience under my belt, causing me to leave a company that I otherwise would have stayed at. The policy of only allowing drivers to take 3-4 days off at a time makes no sense to me. As I said, the truck sits for the same amount of time either way.

    One company I was at didn’t realize that people drove the truck. They only thought of IT (you and the truck as one) as a machine, a tool to get the job done. It should run 24/7/365.
    The driver was a dime a dozen, a commodity that cost money. If you wanted time off, you were expendable.

    You would think these companies would start realizing that playing ball with good drivers on home time is a good thing. With a driver shortage in play, low pay, every day hassles and importing forefingers to drive in America isn't working out well and with Trump soon to be tighten up on foreigners taking American jobs
    that these companies would realize its the drivers ball.

    Melton let's you bank home time. I like to stay out 6-8 weeks then take 7-14 off. Also, vacation days don't count as earned days off.

    with 1 yr exp at poly trucking you can get 10-12 days off whenever you want as long as you avg 2kmiles a week which isnt hard

    No your just number attached to a truck. They like it like that. Costs them less money.

    There is no driver shortage. Has never been any driver shortage. That is just a lie, a come on, perpetrated by the Megas and their lobbying groups to convince people to invest in this profession and their schools. Supply and demand you know.

    Huh, imported labor works out great for them; Half the wages for each import are paid by the government. Not only that, by conditions of their visa foreigners are often required to keep a job - a captive audience.

    What Trump? Don't be fooled Trumps loves foreign workers. He imports plenty of them himself. That isn't going to end. The Trump family looks to hire foreign workers while celebrating U.S. labor.

    Many drivers would love to bank days but company isn't making any money if the truck is at the drivers home too long.But if you wanna take more then 4 or 5 days off a month you would likely need to leave your trk at the terminal.
