I wish I had been hired at UPS early in life. I was 35 and money already wasn't my number 1 priority. I really did like UPS, but I am too independent and get bored easily. My life got to where schedule was more important and that's when I started thinking outside my comfort zone. I have a lot of capital invested and risk that I didn't have at UPS, but it takes money and risk to make money. I still recommend UPS as a life long career to people I know.

I got hired for full-time feeder work at 35, and I'm a couple years in. It's all fine by me.

My buddy who works there says his coworkers have "very expensive toys and extremely expensive divorces!"

Haha at UPS? Depends on the terminal. I'm home every day, and my wife may be nuts, but we're good. Lol

I'm already on "the List" with ABF as a city driver and I have a set shift. My gripe is that, for all the busting ### all day at usually 11-12 hours a pop,and then getting back to the terminal and loading/unloading trucks for another 2 hours; it just isn't worth $24.00 an hour to me and that even includes all the overtime.
I know that to some drivers, this is equivalent to hitting the lottery but to me, the pay does not justify the compensation. Nor the sacrifice.
I realize that $24.00 in this country these days is considered great pay when compared to most other jobs in the U.S., but since rents and mortgages (Along with many other items) have increased dramatically every year, this pay (again, to me) is just way too low.
Hell, I was making $24.00 an hour back in the early eighties.

Also; regarding all the posts that state that guys are making upwards of $100 grand a year or more; I don't see that even being remotely possible.
At least, up here in New England it isn't.
I work with quite a few "lifers"... 25 years or more with ABF Freight, and that includes both city and linehaul drivers, and these guys are all busting about $80,000 grand a year. Tops.
And they are working 12 hour days and more, every single day to get that.

Did ABF accept wage concessions like YRC did? Or was it 7.5% instead of 15%? $24 is a little low; I wonder what linehaul pays these days.

City work plus dock work at that many hours is definitely brutal. 10 hours on a hard city route is way more difficult than 14 doing road work.

That was my range at ABF. 80-90 per year.

...but I had no life, and would never work there again.
