I am glad they were able to get full time work at UPS, but disappointed that the head bean counters at Walmart caused them to feel the need to leave what Sam Walton wanted to always be the premier driving job in America.

Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

UPS used to give a 10% discount on stock purchase and at one time I bought nearly the same amount in stock every year as the max allowed in my 401k. It was that stock money that I parlayed into the capital to pay for my equipment for my business now. Thanks to UPS I was able to start my business debt free. That's the best way I knew how to get daywork that payed UPS money.LtlAnonymous Thanks this. -

My life is much better now that I learned to never tell her when she is wrong. It took me a long time to figure that out.Bob Dobalina and LtlAnonymous Thank this. -
But going back to the original topic, hasn't Schneider ruined enough in trucking? Granted, they haven't done it alone. But they are entirely complicit.
Leave LTL alone, with your mediocrity. -
But it's not just Schneider... it's all of the mega companies. And, unfortunately, if they have their sights set on obtaining all the LTL accounts, then they will eventually get all of it.
And I dare say, it is their intent.
How will signatory companies compete with XPO and Schneider, since these two companies have vast resources.... along with cheap, obedient workers?
Bureau of Labor statistics state that unions represent 7% of the total U.S. Labor force. Personally, I think that might just be padded information; I'm willing to bet that those union stats are much lower, and they may very well soon be all but gone.
I'm not really trying to enter the pro vs. non union debate; I'm merely sharing a little insight mixed in with a dash or two of observation.LtlAnonymous Thanks this. -
I don't see megas as we know them figuring out LTL, especially considering 100% turnover. LTL requires legacy experience and mentoring, including in management and among dockworkers and drivers. Blind leading the blind won't cut it in freight.
MACK E-6 and LtlAnonymous Thank this. -
It doesn't REQUIRE it, per se. They've half-assed truckload for so long, customers just expect a half-assed job from EVERYONE.
Bob Dobalina Thanks this.
