There's JFK Airport. Theres one of the biggest ports in the world nearby. Theres thousands of warehouses for the ports. Go apply for a job in the warehouse to get your foot in the door.
I'm one of those guys that went to the DMV and took the Class A test, the written part and applied for a job at a warehouse that had its own trucks. 30 days later, they let me use their truck to finish testing. That's how I got started.
Go to a warehouse that has its own trucks and get your foot in the door. They will make a copy of your DL and be sure to bring out that you already have your.
"But Six, you did that years ago...perhaps things have changed and that's no longer possible.
My kid sister took a job at FedEx, loading airplanes. A driving job was posted on the employee bulletin board and I told her to apply for it. I gave her $1200 for her to go to the CDL program at the local community college. When FedEx found out that she had signed up for driving, they paid for her schooling and gave her a $3000 sign on bonus. So she got a gig where she has to go to Amazon twice a day and wait for them to load, and drop the trailers at the airport. Drop and hook, home daily, $800/week. Gravy.
One more thing...warehouse work can be tough. Make sure that you look like you can handle a tough job. People that show up with paints that are too tight, big blocks of wood in their ears, lots of jewelry, wild or pretty hairstyles, $150 sneakers, sagging pants, or showing lots of skin, are not ready to work.
IRT Season 2 Ep 1: Hugh and Dewey show up for orientation. Hugh has his gear on, fur hat, heavy coat, duck shoes, heavy gloves. Dewey shows up with a light coat and a briefcase. If you were hiring drivers for open deck work in the Artic, which one would you want?
The guys on the top of the pile would be at the top of the pile regardless of who's name is on the truck and regardless of what kind of trailer is being pulled. And you can bet, when they show up, they look as if they are ready to work.
Luck in battle.

Try looking into any of the LTL Companies (YRC, ABF, ODFL, UPSF, FXF, R+L, Saia, Estes, etc., etc.). They all will either have a dock to driver program or higher new students. Same with Foodservice (which was already mentioned). Beverage companies like Pepsi and Coke higher new students. If you wanna go the Class B route, Waste Management might higher new students. At least they do in my area. Lot of Parcel Companies use straight trucks, like USPS (MVO), FedEx Express and Ground (might not even need a CDL for Van deliveries), USPS Mail Carriers (they top out around $33-34 an hour), UPS Package Delivery Driver (they top out around $36 an hour, no CDL required), and Bread Truck RSR Van Drivers (no CDL required, can make over $100k).

Thank you for the suggestions. When you say they hire class B in your area. Are referring to living in NYC or around it? I don't need to know the exact area because I have been looking for stuff 50 to 90 miles away from where I reside.

Yes, the waste management is a nightmate to get into. I had a of the books job for one for 2 weeks but got kicked because a union worker came in. Then people said I had to join a union. Then tried out for a carting company in upstate NY and smoke was coming from the clutch. That's when I realized I took the reliability and maintenance of the previous company's trucks for granted. Then was told the trucks were old and that drivers shouldn't expect companies to maintain every part of the truck.
I will definitely check out the companies all of you have mentioned. I gave YRC a call and they said they would take me after the finger prints come back. I think I have like 3 weeks to wait. -
Gate Gourmet is usally hiring. They deliver food carts to passenger planes at the airports. Don't have to lift food carts; they roll.
Mattflat362 and Artness Thank this. -
Sky Chefs is similar to Gate Gourmet. Don't know their hiring requirements; probably more strict than Gate Gourmet since it's German owned.
Artness Thanks this. -
Wow, I have never seen anything like that before.

At an airport there’s plenty of room to back a truck without hitting something.
