Hi, since doing the finger prints for the hazmat. I have gone to the DMV and they told me if I pass tests for extra endorsements there is a chance they may show up on the new ID that will come in the mail. I took P yesterday, not that I want to drive buses ( just thought why not, not like it expires ).

What is better Tow or Metal coil?

I thought about tow because I think they look kinda cool and would want to do it one day.

Metal coil because it looks like a bigger responsibility.

The guy at the DMV said he doesn't think I would have enough time to do two since much time has passed.

    Thank you for your time.

You won't get the "P" on your license unless you pass a road test in a passenger vehicle. The coil endorsement is more likely to benefit you than a tow truck endorsement, just because it opens the door to a common type of freight (especially in flats), whereas even with the tow endorsement, you still don't know jack about operating a wrecker and would have to start at the bottom and be trained into it...which at THAT point you'd go for the endorsement.

Hazmat and tank (need tank endorsement to pull liquid containers in a van or flat) are the two you'll use the most, and if you're from a state that requires coil endorsements, then that one would be good too. The rest, unless you have a job lined up where you'll need it, don't waste your time.

Wow, thank you. Seems people on the forum know more than the DMV. I will get the metal coil endorsement. Thank you.

never heard about Metal coil endorsement. I have T (tanker) and N (double, triple trailers). Dropped Hazmat after 9/11. T endorsement is a good one. I have earned alot by hauling big liquid filled totes in dry van. Worth to have it for sure !

There are only a few states that have a metal coil endorsement. If you're licensed in one of those states and want to haul a metal coil in that state, you need it.

More power to those who feel so inclined. As for me, I prefer to keep away from that show. I would ahve so many chains on a coil that I would be OW by the time I pulled out!:p
