To the OTR drivers out there, what kind of items do you have with you for cooking and food storage? More specifically, what brand of fridge, microwave, etc do you use in order to maximize space and efficiency?

It would depend on the company that you work for. A lot of the big companies have a list of fireable offenses hen it comes to cooking in the truck. Some drivers are stuck with cooking with whatever they can plug into a 12v outlet.

I have 110 in my truck. I have a couple of 110 cooking devices. I also have a Coleman camp stove.

Husband has a built in fridge that came with his freightliner. He bought a small microwave, toaster, air fryer and small freezer. He cooks or heats up home prepared frozen foods for about 80% of his meals and eats great.

What sort of tips can ya share on how to do simple easy clean up of things like a crock pot, and electric frying pan ?? Is it possible to use like a multi purpose cleaner, or do you really need dish soap and water ??

    Thank you

Get a bootbox size plastic container and a couple gallon jugs of water. It takes very little water to scrub a pan down and then rinse it off.

    hoosiergirl Thanks this.

I have thought of that too. Just sort of wondering if there was some other ways that work for folks out there. I would rather cook in the truck than in the truck stop if I can.. Paper plates, bowls, plastic forks and spoons. So just need to clean the the other stuff. I figure should be able to store 4 gallons of tap water under the bunk in a bow to secure it.

For a slow cooker, get the slow cooker liners. Take it out and throw it away.

I have a coffee machine hooked up to my inverter that I use to make coffee or tea and to heat up water occasionally.

I also have a Crock-Pot hooked up to inverter that I use to cook sausages, burritos, whole eggs occasionally frozen fish, chicken breast.

And I have a edgestar fp630 fridge I hookup to DC outlet that I keep right below freezing and keep my milk, sausages, herrings in wine sace or smoked salmon. Bagged burritos, low sodium v8 vegetable juice. Carrots brocolli... Anything really I need.

Fridge is the biggest thing. It fit a lot better in the international I had. Freightliner I drive now doesn't fit as well but I make due.

It's up to you what you think you will need.

Think if everything you buy as a investment. My fridge took about 6 months before it started paying back. Crock-Pot and coffee machine pays back right away.
Think about how much a coffee or tea will cost you at the truck stop now multiply that by days weeks months and you'll see the benefits.
Same for a fridge. How much will fast food cost you in the long run.

    Good luck.

    HD_Renegade and Jazz1 Thank this.
