Lumping freight

    Yeah man, lots of good choices... CFI, FFE, Prime, Roehl..

    How important is it that you live in a state where they have a terminal? If I took a job for a company that is headquartered in Joplin, MO.. would that mean I would have to drive my 4-wheeler to and from there when I get time off?

    No because like notes only a manual pallet jack. And 2 they will play games with you and have you waiting around to lump it. I’d rather go in my bunk sleep 10 hours collect my bounty for sleepIng away the detention and pull out with 200$

    You are correct on both. It makes you a lot more money, and sometimes it is a WTF workout. I mean sometimes it beats you up good. I also view it as being paid to workout. You will do well if you're not afraid to work.

    Most companies let you take the truck home if you can assure them it's in a relatively safe place. That's a question you can ask, you'll probably get a "yes" answer; "take the truck home, driver."

    I must warn that LTL is really seriously intense. There is a entire different section within Lancaster yard that does nothing but LTL. You might load on 30 stops going to the end of the USA and all of them have to be on both time appts and count.

    Wife and I did a orange run from Fort Lauradale into Connecticut with 5 stops. We are still talking about that particular run after all these years.

    Another example would be in season flowers, the annuals from Delaware to Iowa then 20 stores across the state in a week. Boom boom boom. That one was perfect for us, netted something like 1200 in 6 days. Another load to remember well.

    I had land at my home and one of the things I did is photo the bobtail on gravel away from the power lines and visited safety. Once they understood I can keep 10 trailers on that land and so forth there is no problem keeping it at home. Although the neighbors were tolerant when I cranked at 2 am. Because it will be 5 months before they have to hear that racket again.

    Lumping is a racket no shipper wants to cut you in on. Don't expect to make money at it.

    The company unloads pay a third of what the company will pay a lumper.

    Think you identify yourself as a lumper and get the trucking company to pay you - good luck at that. It used to be an option years ago, but the training companies caught on to the scam. Most require and EN number and they check on the status of the business before they reimburse you for the lumper's fees. By the way that is how most lumpers get paid, right out of the truck driver's pay check. Paid with a company advance against the driver's settlement. Only to be reimbursed when the the lumping company is checked out.

    It can be done and you can make the extra bucks however most drivers just choose to pay a lumper cause they need the rest after driving all day or night to the receiver, the other thing is having decided to unload your self your up against all the lumpers in the warehouse who'll hide the pallet jacks and cause all sorts of issues for you sometimes its just not worth the money. By the way why don't ICE go check out some of these warehouses there's a whole ton of illegals working there.

    @TravR1 FFE definitely gets coast to coast though its been pushing 10 years for me. I know everyone’s running more teams now. Teams are getting more of the long hauls than before
