If you get put in a situation where a pocket knife doesn't help, a gun won't do too much good either most of the times. If someone is shooting at you while you're driving if the first bullet don't kill you, the semi is a weapon of mass destruction let those trailer tandems run that guy's car with with that 34k weight sitting on it he's going to be a flat pancake. Very rare times only a gun is the answer. Get a knife and call it a "tool" for cutting plastic seals. You're covered.
Besides you REALLY don't want to be in a duty to flee state with that and having to use it. Duty to flee = You MUST flee and ONLY allowed deadly force if you have no way to flee said situation AKA unless you have a video camera showing you in a corner of a wall you're F'ed from all 4 ways when you go to court!

In my state you can have a knife if you can claim it as a tool. And it has to be a tool for your profession; if you're a landscaper you can have a machete in your pick up.misterG Thanks this. -
Once you chase the guy down, you're probably going down for man slaughter at a minimum. Way too much risk.
Now I will say truck stops are the ideal places for predatory behavior. You could kill someone very easily at a truck stop and get away.Ffx95 Thanks this. -

What happens when a drunk hits your truck, puts it out of service, while you get transported to the hospital and your company sends another driver to box up your stuff and send it to a terminal or your home. Your gun is found, you're fired. Or you deliver to an unfamiliar address and discover it's inside a military base or something similarly sensitive and your gun is found and you are fired and or arrested. In those cases rather than having another regular day you are fired and in trouble.
Please understand, what happened to someone delivering on a military base back in 1972 does not guarantee anyone in post-Sept 11 America will hold your gun while you are on post.
Having said all of that, I have NEVER had my truck searched in over 20 years of driving. I don't remember any event I thought was leading to a possible search. Someone having no gun means not worrying about if you will be searched.
Being an adult means making decisions and accepting the consequences. You cannot correctly guess my ownership or position on guns from reading my posts.
