I am a licensed carry, have been approaching 10 years after a successful eye surgery. Ive been retired after about 30 years pushing big trucks down the road on the so called faith in humanity. Your mind, words and abilities in reading potential aggressors body language and behavior prior to attack is very important. Deescalation is another important skill. The more they yell, they less you make noise. Never run. I have actually open carried a rather large knife in it's holster into places like JFK Kennedy freight airport and other places with no problems. Its cut many a pallet wrap and metal banding thousands of times. Times have changed since 9-11 though.
Most companies will say no weapons on company property. Period. Dot etc. If you are caught with a weapon, you will be fired. Possibly prosecuted. Here in Arkansas the legislature just recently passed two laws, one is workers cars can hold your gun, holster and ammo while you work inside the company property. Second, you carry into the Capitol Building and colleges as well as our churches. Which is a revocation of some of the limitations in previous banned places in addition to taking 8 hours of active shooter training with our state police. Ive already taken some IDF training and it will be fun to hunt me some bears but also more fun to learn how to get along with them when that day comes, the State Police.
Our License allows us to carry into many states. However, certain states like Maryland is a absolute no go, both for not honoring my license (Or anyones really... none) and also for the weapon I carry and ammunition with it. Its there for one purpose, stop the threat. And it's not a lawful accepted weapon according to MSP. In addition there was a wisconsion trucker some months ago who pulled his weapon and was arrested after a fight in Maryland.
Maryland does require a non resident or resident license to carry, you can get one provided you can pay the 90 dollar fee, and literally on paper prostrate yourself as a prior victim of a crime against you. So, that's a no go.
Trucking has expensive freight. We hauled or rather specialized in McKesson of Memphis. They run narcotics and medicine in million plus dollar trailer loads. To get into memphis, get the load and get out of there in a situation in which there is a high threat level in Memphis with a load that the bad guys will kill us for in a heart beat (A pint of codiene is about 5000 dollars on the street I think...) and to have 4 pallets of the stuff in the middle behind 4 of other liquid narcotics etc and more of pills valued at up to 50 or more each... in a unmarked 18 wheeler requires a little bit of prey behavior and a whole lot of being careful. No guns back then either.
I would not think about doing that now without arms. Which means I will have to accept arrest or prosecution if I am caught on McKesson property with same. And more particularly because of such. That license means nothing on their property. Its the way it is.
And there you have it. Dam if you do and dam if you dont.

What I find about people that carry, including law enforcement, is that I could probably take their weapon away from 99/100 of them.
I do see the point in carrying a weapon, in modern day society, but not to the buffet or fuel desk. In your truck, locked, yes. On your hip all the time, hell no. -
If you decided to work for England, this is the only pistol u need!!!!!

Regarding the Police in general, they have about 5 steps in drawing, presentation and holding bad guy at gunpoint. IDF only has three. And the way most police hold gun straight out with both hands bent arms, it's a little more difficult to disarm them. But it can be done too. The bad guys have no chance. If you see them coming.
The fuel desk is hardly the place to be armed. Or many places really. That is where it is important to be concealed totally. No see um, no one knows um. Now that child running around in the toy dept of a store (Which you don't go into...) bump into me and say daddy this man has a gun.... oh boy... not good.
Life has a way of working out well enough for most people. And that's a good thing. I have had a small number of truckers who were armed by choice and the guns usually stayed locked up in the cab without too much trouble for them. -
No company is gonna allow you to carry.
Have money for a rental if you choose to say f their rules.
