I think i saw the article you saw. The American Heart Association has adopted those numbers. Currently the FMCSA has left the rules unchanged.

Diet and exercise go a long way to improving blood pressure levels.

That is by far the not worst case.

People that are borderline to the new standards will be given stronger meds to get it down even more.
Stronger meds can lead to other complications.

And what if they are wrong in the assessment that always lower is always better?
10 years from now they may be telling us that 110/70 is where we need to be, and then 100/60.
And by then everyone on the planet will be taking BP meds - just like they want.

That entire industry thrives on pumping us full of drugs, and the more the better.

It used to be 160/90 to get a 2 year card- At Least it was when the "CDL" came out in 1991

I Believe its all about getting millions of people on meds for life- What a Country this is turning out to be

They can change all they want. They can suggest all they want.

High blood pressure becomes a threat after a certain amount usually accompanied by other detectable symptoms which require medical intervention to save life and more importantly preserve you against stroking out, vegetative and other really bad futures including death.

I can carry 220 over 130 for a week and have. Without trouble. However, it's stupid to let that happen because I lose years doing that. I take medicine when I need to. Sometimes fast medicine other times long ones. BP drops to a nice sleepy 100/60 And stays there until I explode writing some post or trip over something in the hall.

130 over 90 or whatever it is is pretty normal for most people who has had a big meal plus coffee etc. I had that for years back in my trucking days and the doctors constantly gave me trouble over it. IF a Nation of 100 million is so stressed out that they are not carrying that nice 100/60 then the Nation must expect a few million deaths from overwork or stress along the way.

It's easier to take a pill than it is to eat right, exercise and loose weight. Normal BP is 80-120/60-80.

To work on overseas government contracts, you have to have a BMI of less than 39. Wait until you have to have it for a CDL.

I do believe that high blood pressure will in fact wreck you. But also, as several people have posted, an apple or a pear, and a few laps around the truck stop do a lot as well, more so than drugs.

Everyone knows their own body better than anyone else.

It always amazes me when the accepted scientific principles of the day, are suddenly found to be wrong lol.

Few hundred years ago, they simply opened up your veins and let the bad blood out, try not to let out too much doc.

It is for young children which is why it is included in the range. It would be considered low for adults. Normal BP would be considered high for young children.

Leeches are still used in modern medicine.

They would also drill a hole through your skull into your brain to let out demons.

But how about eggs, just in my lifetime.
Eggs were good for you when I was a kid. Then they were bad for you. Then they were good again, then bad.
Then it was just the yolk that was bad for you, so eat egg whites only. Yuk!

Sugar has been the same way.
Artificial sweeteners came along to replace sugar because natural sugar is SO bad for you.
But the sweeteners cause cancer and brain damage.
'Diet' soda pop actually increases your chance of obesity and other health problems, not the other way around like advertised.

There is always a 'new study' to show us that we are doing something wrong, and that we need to change it.
And it is ALWAYS to make money for a certain group of companies.
