I'm looking at a couple different trucks for some equiptment heavy hauling. We go up and down mountains sometimes and need some power. Looking to get a daycab pete. Im looking at a 2003 379 with a c-16 cat. Whats everyones reviews on it over a 6nz cat that were also looking at.

    Thanks in advance!!

Unless your gross weight is going to be 100,000lbs + all the time, i'd go with the 6nz. A 6nz at 550hp/1950ft-lbs will do whatever a C16 will without destroying itself running cold. People i know with them are having the same problems as they used to have with the KTA600. Can't work them hard enough to keep them warmed up properly and the engines suffer from it.

More power. Just as reliable as the 6nz. Check to see if it also has the larger driveshaft and u-joints.

If they have temperature problems then they have deeper issues, a 16 is no where close to a K series for displacement, and should hold water temp no matter the load.

Got nothing to do with water temp. It's a low cylinder temp problem. Any big horse engine will suffer if it's not running under enough load to warm it up properly. My 3408 would run raw fuel down the back of the stacks if i couldnt keep 18-20psi of manifold on it. I had a fueled-up 1693 that was even worse.

That is a mechanical, no comparison. I know people that work 1000+hp engines daily and not a single one of them had issues like you mention.

I'm gotta disagree with this. A friend of mine has a factory 7cz 600 / 2050 and the only trouble he had was liners. Had the block done and 300,000 still going strong.

We idle alot and have alot of pto time pumping off product and he's never had the issues you discribe. A c-16 is basically the same engine as a c-15 minus rotating assembly.

Why would you say a 6nz dont have cylinder temp problems, but you say a 7cz does? How? they use basically the same compression ratio.

Guess it must have been faulty liners.
