Verizon HAD an "unlimited plan" that they could cancel if you went over 5 gigs/mo regularly. My contract says they won't cancel or charge overage if I go over occasionally so I've never worried about it.

The same plan is now limited to 5 gigs per month and overage is $.25 per meg.

Personally, I would rather pay more for a better service that actually works. I have not had a single issue with Verizon anywhere. Another big plus is that their customer service is here in the US and they speak english...unlike sprint. I wish they had the 18% trucker discount like sprint does.

Just got a notice in the mail that Hubby and I have been going over on our "Unlimited" usage for our "Unlimited Plan" with Sprint and that we will get one more notice in the mail for our "Usually High Usage on the Unlimited Plan," before our service is disconnected. What a crock!

CSR did not say that we were entitled to keep our past plan that we have had for over a year. She said that our contract states Sprint can screw you over when it feels like, blah blah blah....

Looks like we may have to get a second "unlimited" plan. What jerks!

May I recommend you Google "Millenicom"? From what I hear they're using the VZW network, now, but you still shouldn't have the 5GB/month limit nor the contract.

Very interesting. I had not heard of this but have been reading various forums about it since reading your post. The general consensus seems to be that they have no cap right now. And one of their devices, I couldn't understand the abbreviations in the thread, actually monitors your usage so you know how much you're using.

This is what really irks me about Sprint and Verizon. They put in these caps and yet cannot tell you how much you're using. I could probably manage with 5g but I need to know when I'm getting close to the cap. I watch a lot of TV shows and would simply watch less of them.

As it stands right now, I have noticed that Sprint has been slowing my speed when I'm stuck somewhere and watching a lot of TV shows.

They used to use the Franklin CDU-680 on the Sprint network. Apparently, they're now shipping a Pantech USB device which works on the Verizon network. You'll have to get the connection manager from Verizon if you want to monitor your usage on the Pantech.

Thanks, I'm probably going to make the switch after a little more research. I've been with Sprint for years using the same Pantech px-500 card so I wouldn't mind investing in a new data card at this point.

So apparently you can monitor your usage with Verizon using their connection manager also. But I couldn't go with Verizon after all the horror stories of them cutting people off. They would just cut people off without telling them.

I noticed a lot of skepticism on the forums about Millenicom switching from Sprint to Verizon. The reason I would want to be able to monitor my usage is that I suspect that eventually Millenicom will also have a cap. A Millenicom representative actually posted on one of the forums (dslreports) and said that there was no current plans to place a cap but seemed to suggest that if they did they would work out a pricing structure. That would be much more preferrable to just being cut off or having your speed cut down. If the pricing structure is reasonable that is.

This is before they got started and were using Sprint.

O.K. I have been hearing these rumors flying around. The call center is getting bombarded with questions, so lets put it all on paper.
1.Allegedly Sprint is going to implement a 5G cap. Millenicom is not Sprint. We are a separate entity not bound by Sprints Policies.
    2. We are currently unable to disclose our plans on the new service. Not that we are trying to hide it, but we are not at a stage to quote pricing yet. Until the service is fully operational and on line, we are unable to do a full cost analysis, but there are no plans for implementing a cap though.

It's not the PX-500. I also have one of those at home. If you've been reading around DSLR, you've surely seen my screen name. And I'm somewhat skeptical about going to them because I find them to be deceptive in their ways, though nearly everyone is satisfied with their service. Some of the main things that bug me are them claiming to be the world's largest ISP, the image of the big building they would make you think is their headquarters (look around on Google Maps--there's even a street-level view. Looks like a house to me.), and them switching these customers out to Verizon with no advance notice.

But overall, the customers seem happy. I just don't like being lied to or misled.

I thought I saw your handle on there but don't know if I read your posts. I browsed through fairly quickly.

Maybe by the "world's largest ISP" they mean the most coverage around the world through all the services their working with. Does sound suspicious though. I saw an ad in a Pilot today for a "pay as you go" mobile broadband service. Forget the name though it sounds similar.

thanks for the info, I will have to check out Millenicom, see what they are all about.

Is it not cost effective for Sprint or Verizon to make a pricing chart or something to charge people a flat rate per 5GB or something? Seems that the easy fix for customer and company is to just charge current customers more.

I found that you can monitor your usage with Sprint online at their website. If you log onto your account, go down to your air card summary, click usage details, and it will give you the total in kb so far for your current billing cycle. 1,000,000 kb's equals 1 gb.

My billing period begins on the 22nd each month. By yesterday I had already used over 323,000 kb's. Last night I watched the 2 hr "24: Redemption" on Fox on Demand, and 2 CSI episodes. I got a few emails with pictures that were downloaded also. This morning I checked my usage and I'm at 2,232,183 kb's or almost 2.5 gb's.

So I'm not even a week into my billing period and I've already used almost half of my allotment.

I checked last month's bill and my total was over 6 gb's. I was not charged anything additional. But I did notice that my speed and connectivity was affected towards the end of the billing period. But this is because I am an existing customer. If you sign on with Sprint now, you will be charged $50 for each additional gb over 5 gb. See below.

You can also go to "My Bill" and click on usage details for your total over the previous billing period.

The rumors of new overage charges for Sprint EVDO Data service are true -- Effective Sunday, 11/02/08 all NEW accounts will be subject to $0.05/MB overage charges on all data beyond the first 5GB per billing month.
Lines of service established prior to 11/02/08 will NOT be subject to the new overage charges, but are still subject to Sprint's 5GB clause in their terms of service.
At $50/GB, Sprint's new overage charges are significantly less than those of its main rivals. Verizon's current overage charge is $250/GB, and AT&T's is currently $490/GB.
